i think the tacoma rotor mod is the easiest thing to do to widen your front end. Every way out there still strains your bearings though . the only true way to do is widen your housing

i have the front range Tacoma break kit on my 85 and it is one of the best mods i have done.

i just test drove a 85 4 runner with high steer fj rotors and ifs calipers (same as my old setup) with land cruiser master and i felt like it would not stop!

i let the guy drive my truck and he was sold on the kit!

my set up is 92 4 runner master and booster, tied up lspv, front range brackets for callipers, swap knuckles from driver to passenger, ifs hub turned down to fit inside a factory 2000 tacoma rotor, and tacoma calipers.

added bonus is to change the birf all you have to do is take off the hub dial. pull the snap ring and remove the 8 bolts holding the spindle on the knuckles. !!!!!  no wheel bearings need to be touched!!!

also to do a brake job, just pull the caliper!!

only way to fly!

Here is a link to the FROR kit that uses IFS hubs and Tacoma calipers and rotors. This is a sweet set-up and makes serviceing the axle a breeze.

You can use stock ifs hubs and calipers with taco rotors and bolt the caliper from the other side and it will do the same as this but not cost anything!

Ditto, I need to see that!

On the fror kit, I saw lc engineering has a tacoma brake upgrade that includes tundra calipers (didn't say mods were needed so should bolt up the same) and slightly larger vented rotors.  It's spendy, but it sounds like you could combine this with the fror kit and have phenominal front brakes!  Might be able to snag the rotors separately, get some tundra calipers and save a bit of money over their kit too.

I've done that setup on a friends truck.  It works just ok but the taco rotors are the same diameter as 86-95 IFS which is about 1/2" smaller OD than solid axle or FJ40-80 rotors.  You actually lose braking force rather than gain it by going to a smaller rotor and less pad contact.  Anyone that thinks they are getting better brakes due to anything but using a V6 caliper is delusional plain and simple.

Nate it's the same as the standard IFS hub swap but rather than machining the caliper to get proper rotor centering you add washers.  I ended up using one standard bulk washer and one thinner machine washer to get proper spacing.  Works fine for a wheeler.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Here are a few pics of my set-up

I got the idea from a guy on Pirate

I used the 4 large piston calipers with taco rotors. I just ground the outside of the IFS hub to let the taco rotor slide over it. I just left it on the IFS spindles and pressed hard with a grinder so it spun while I pressed. Ground evenly this way. I just bolted it from the other direction. I used a washer to space it evenly, you can barely see it in the pics. Works great, I have tested with many hard stops on 35's.

Got my Taco Rotors today, picking up flat washers, bolts and nuts and getting the pass side done. :] much easier then the previous IFS hub conversion i did! And grinding down the Hub wasnt that bad either.

Just an added info piece.

Using IFS Hubs and FJ Rotors, your WMS-WMS is 58.25in
Using IFS Hubs and Taco Rotors, your WMS-WMS is 58.75in.

So now your front is .25in wider then an IFS Rear instead of .25in narrower.
and changing a Birf will be a SNAP!

I just got done dry fitting and bolting on the pass side. Looks awesome.

you had to do more machine work though. i did the IFS hubs, FJ rotors and V6 Calipers on my 90 4runner and that was the biggest PITA of a conversion. this is MUCH cleaner and straight forward. and makes changing birfs and rotors... a BREEZE!

I can do a walk-thru if anyone is interested.

Hey Jake, I forgot about yours!
Only difference is I barely did any grinding on the caliper, in fact i used a flap disk on bleeder half of the caliper and clearenced it just a hair. everything else was straight forward. I was kind of surprised on how much material needs to be removed on the hub.

Yeah, I only had to grind the drivers side, the passenger side fit perfect.
