Driver or passenger side drop????
« on: Aug 21, 2010, 06:07:43 PM »
Which side is better on the Tacoma?  I bought a taco with a HP dana 44 in it, but I have a 85 Toyota front diff with HP E locker I am going to put in the taco.  Just seeing what everyone thinks.

The transfer case is broken, so that is why am asking.

Yes I know things have to be modified to change the drop.

If you switch to passenger side drop, you'll have to re-route your exhaust to clear the driveshaft. You'll get more t-case gear options with a passenger drop. Personally, I think the HP44 is the perfect axle for a Taco. The Toyota axle is too skinny unless you go with a Diamond housing.

Well  I agree, but I bought the E-locker and the housing for my 4 runner(now selling), but found a sweet deal on a Tacoma with dual cases already with a broken transfer case.  I'll be saving the HP dana 44 for my double cab build, if I use the Toyota front.  thanks for your help.

you will need to run large spacers up front to match the rear, but other than a little modding, I like pass drop, thats what I run in my 97 runner.

I already got the 3" spacers for the front as I was going to run a taco rear in my 4 runner

If you do driver side drop you can go D60 cheaper.. if you decide to go that route.... Ford 60's are alot cheaper than a chevy 60.
