Should not be that hard, just like a 2nd gen. If you can shoehorn a 350 in a first gen a 3.4 will. Just buy a doner rig and use the whole wiring harness.

basically going to be the same thing, 22r out and 3.4 in

I just did one on a 1st gen with a 3" body lift went good just made motor mounts. and it went right in no big deal

There's a guy selling an 88 4Runner in central Illinois...he's done a good 3.4 swap and only wants $2500 for the truck...he's asking $5600 obo for everything, but that includes a straight front axle and a ton of parts.
