1994 4 runner. leveling
« on: Aug 10, 2010, 07:10:48 PM »
hey guys my roommate just picked up a 94 4runner, and it has the usual saggy ass as most do, what can be done to level it out? products or websites would be great on products that have proven to be worth it. thanks all

the rear runs a coil and track bar type setup for those who aren't sure.

I like to put old man emu rear coils on those.

I've got OME (old man emu) rear coils, OME2900

http://www.trdparts4u.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=-6651 (ome 2900 med rate coils)

I also have Ball joint spacers up front.

http://www.trdparts4u.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=-7435 (ball joint spacer for the front)

i went with the OME 2900 (med rate) over the OME 2901 (heavy load) so the truck would still flex. And i load my truck down and never have a problem. never a trailer though

http://www.trdparts4u.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=-7502 (ome 2901 heavy rate coils)

there are also simple spacers

All of these links are trdparts4u.com , which is toyota of Dallas TX aftermarket store. i had good results going threw them.

very nice thanks guys. it is just a daily driver, no fancy suspension needed. the only offroad this truck will probably see is when we go camping and things. the 2 inch spacers are probably the ideal setup for him because they are cheap, easy, and i've never heard a bad thing about coil spacers unless it's a full out rock rig. thanks again

Firestone bags is what I used on mine.  100 bucks from 4wheel parts.  even cheaper way is with spacers(I've had really good luck with daystar)  The OME or Eibach replacement coils are probably the best. the Eibach's required the torsion bars to be cranked up so the truck sat level.

if your looking for something really cheap.... i have these installed untill i get new coils.... seem to work good... have held up with the towing and jumping that i do LOL..

http://www.jegs.com/i/Mr.+Gasket/720/1281/10002/-1

can get em at most auto parts stores..... like 8 bucks

i had to use  a port-a-power to spread the coils and they definitely stay in there. at least now i can see more than 50 yards behind me threw the rearview mirror lol

lol nice bleak, i've seen them before. probably will just save the money and buy the OME spacers. they are much more worth the work!

but those coil spacers remind me of a dumbass i went to school with with an 89 ford f150, he hammered 3 chunks or 2x4 into his front coils to get about a 3 inch lift on the front, and ran those $20 blocks from checker auto in the rear.... it was the most ridiculous lift kit i have ever seen!!!

but the "Jumping" test makes sure everything is workin good haha

ok so .... i got tired of all the sag'n so i installed some Firestone #4112 airbags....very easy install.

disconnect sway bar ends, track bar, shocks....

jack it up, support the frame then lower the axle until you can get the springs out... stuff the bags into the coils....

here is where i went a bit different than the instructions, you have to remove the bump stops and cannot reuse them so i drilled the bump stop attaching bolt hole out and routed the air line up, instead of drilling a hole and mounting it down like the instructions said. WORKED AWESOME.  route the air lines to where you want them (i put mine under the fuel fill door). then install everything u took off...  Found out the only way to reattach the track bar is to raise the axle untill its almost to ride height then it slips right on....

as i had spacers in the coils before i am showing how the truck looks now with the bags deflated and then inflated...

bags totally flat

bags at max psi (35)

its hard to tell but the truck sits higher in the rear at max psi.... still rides very nice too... even unloaded..

bags installed  (0 psi)

where i put my valve stems

all in all... good 70 bucks to spend....
