why does my winch plug keep melting!??
« on: Jul 15, 2010, 09:06:19 PM »
so i got the smittybilt xrc8 from the GF for my birthday and i set it up for mounting on the front and rear. i bought the same plugs warn sells for the same use but when i start pulling the truck, the power side of the plug will start smoking within 5 seconds then it will start melting.

the first time it melted, i was running in order, battery - 4g wire - plug - 4g - winch

now i have battery - 2g - 400amp fuse - 2g - plug - 4g....and i also filled the plugs with diolectic grease.

i know the wires are in the plug all the way, ive tug'd on them all and they dont come out.....
i just want it to work right!!   :censored:

Find out how many amps the winch pulls.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

195 amps for 2000lbs
260 amps for 4000lbs
335 amps for 6000lbs

the first time, i was stuck in mud and the 2nd time i just used it, i put it in first gear  and hookd it to a stump.

ha! i just figured it out....i was laying in bed trying to think what the heck it is....i been putting the connector piece in the plug up side down so it wasnt sliding into the plug far enough and it wasnt getting a good enough connection.
