cluster swap
« on: Jul 07, 2010, 03:47:43 PM »
ok i have searched but cant find anything. When switching to a sr5 cluster do i haveto run a wire for the volt guage or is it good to go just plug it in. And I found the pinout numbers showing sr5 and dlx and the pinout numbers are not all the same how does it still work when i swap it out.  Hope you guys know what I am trying to say.

I switched from a 90 4cyl cluster to a v6 cluster from a 4runner at the junkyard.  Everything worked accept for the oil pressure indicator.  It is pegged all of the time on the new cluster. I figured the 4cyl didnt have a sender for a gauge with any range.  Just an idiot light. The only thing weird I had to do was turn the adjuster for the tach to be right.

I don't mean to hi jack but how exactly do you turn the adjuster on a toyota tach?

You have to swap out the oil pressure sender or you will burn up the oil pressure gauge. You adjust the toyota tach you take it apart and there is a lil spring/arm you move IIRC. You might also have to wire in for the tachometer. And if your a auto you might have to swap some wires for the volt meter to work right.

Here it is I got it yesterday from Bog-toy hooked it up today i got lucky it had a wire ran all the way to the plug for the tach and all i had to do is plug it in and go. Need to get a new oil sender i have the old one unplugged tell tomorrow. Looks alot better than the old one. I also ordered a bearing kit for my 3rd member but when i got it apart the previous owner swapped a v6 3rd in and I was not aware of that so had to take them back and get v6 bearings so my rig sits in pieces tell tuesday.  :(

Heres a pic of the 4cyl and the v6 pinion bearing. A little bigger
