1989 with v6
« on: Jul 02, 2010, 01:58:01 PM »
I have an 1989 single cab with V6, would like to makes some mods to the transfercase to get lower crawling ratio and not change my gears.  I still drive on the highway and dont want to spend the big bucks for dual cases, would like to keep the current drivelines.  Point me in the right direction please. :smack:

If you haven't changed the diff gears to match the tires that you are running, that should be your first choice.  Otherwise it looks like it will run you about $1200 to add a 4.7 gear driven t-case to the V-6 transmission.

In the mean time if you have A/C, you can kick it on to help with descents/drop offs when crawling and if you turn up the idle screw you can reduce a lot of stalling while on the trail.  It wont be the same as dual cases or 4.7's, but I found it helpful.

$1200 is a little steep you can get them for less than that. Look for a used case and adapter on MC Forum or Pirate. I got my adapter and 4.7's on MC forum used but brand new for $600.
