I've never understood why people take Toyota axles and put them in a Samurai. Why not put the axles in a Toyota, what a novel idea. :gap:

Jerry I think his point was not that they are an upgrade to the Sammy but that you should just keep the Yota they belong to and forget the Sammy alltogether hehe.

True, but a sammie is lighter and smaller too. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Back on topic... IFS is great for mild wheeling, and very reliable with 31's. Like someone said, the steering linkage is the weak point, you will break idler arms if you wheel it much at all. But the real drawback to IFS will sneak up on you, it's the rubber bushings in the suspension. At some point they will all tear and develop play, $300 in parts and a major PIA to replace, many people will tell you that you're better off doing a SAS.

Just change the bushings to poly..................

(and you won't get the annoying steering wheel off to one-side that slowly creeps back to normal after you're done wheeling too.....)

Poly is definenly a soloution to the rubber bushings tearing, but do they still make the kits?

Still a pain to install.

Get an idler arm brace to keep it from breaking, they are cheap and easy to install.

...and yes I was refering to if you want Toyota parts just get a Toyota. Been there done that on the Samurai deal was never happy. Was much happier with a IFS Toyota and still am.

Yep, this is good advice. Get one before you buy gas for wheelin! Didn't Total Chaos used to make a badass idler setup? It was a whole replacement, not a brace.

the steering seems fine, but I think out of a couple of spare parts that one should deffently be in the bag. I"m hopefully getting to the junk yard soon and getting the inner axel shafts. I also think high steer is soon to come. that way when I'm boared of ifs I already got it for sas. and the best thing about a zukyota 60hp will never break a axel.
