Shock and/or spring advice
« on: Jun 04, 2010, 11:21:42 AM »
Hey I've got an 87 with an 83 front end. Wrangler 2.5's in the front and chevys in the rear, on 33's. Tried and true combonation. I've got really bad brake dive in the front and alot of body roll; especially at 40-65 mph. I am trying to figure if its the springs or my shocks. Im running 14" pro comps in the front and ranchos out back / \. Does anyone have any experience with this sping/shock combo? Ive been told to get set of marlin's springs or/or bilsteins. I can post pictures when my gf comes home. Thanks

I just took it out with the ranchos in front and it seemed like it helped....or i am just thinking it helped. Its got to be the shocks. Anyone hear about the ride quality of Pro Comps?

My friend swears by your current setup but with all pro comps. He says it rides likes a Cadillac, but don't Cadillacs have a lot of body roll  :dunno: the chevys are real soft, I ran um in my 82 without shocks for a while and then ran some skyjackers and finally mounted some bilstiens and I liked it a lot better. Plus they are gas charged rebound shocks so they help your Chevy droop.

i'm running all pro comps 3000 their a pretty stiff shock... i'm guessing your body roll is coming from your soft suspension, which is good for the stuff were doing.. i'm running chevy's in the rear and marlins in the front with the overload out for more flex...and i have xtream roll especially since i'm spooled in the rear...take the good with the bad i guess or reinstall you sway bars ... :wag:

Having your shock mounted like this / \ will also give you body roll. Especially if they are at a good angle. The more they are angled, the less efficient they work. Installing a sway bar will also help a bunch.

are runnng the chevy and toyota shackels (doubled up) on the rear?  if you have the spring holders cut to where the rear pack comes apart, when breaking, the rear pack will unload and come up into the air causing it to nose dive.  also, i have procomps all the way around on mine and had really bad body roll with 63 rear and NWOR rears up front.  changed out to 5125's up front and procomps gas charged for the rear and it fixed the problem.

This is my old truck, it worked great but if I did it again I would make the hoop a bit shorter. Had johny joints and the shackles where 8" eye to eye but I don't remember.
