transmission help

i am rebuilding my tranny out of an 85 pickup. i pulled out my front oil seal without thinking about it and now dont remember which way the seal goes. i have searched the site and cant find any info. please help

The flat surface is away from the oil. 

The ring spring on the lip is on the inside towards the oil.
