Toybox for NP435
« on: Mar 10, 2003, 06:17:41 AM »
I'm new to this forum...Doesn't look like a lot of posting goes on here, but may be you all can help me anyways.  I got an 89 'Yota 4x4 that I've gutted and am in the process of building the way I want it.
Its got a GM small block with Vortec L31 heads, a Ford high pinion Dana 44 in the front with a high pinion 31 spline 9 inch in the rear.  For a tranny i got the NP435 out of the truck i robbed the front axle out of.
Now I've got to do something about a t case.  I want to use a marlin crawler behind the NP435 and mate that to a Bronco Dana 20 so i get the right offset for my front axle.  So my question to you guys is...who does that??  :thud:

I have a 435 with an AA adapter to my dual tcases - but on my HP 44 I shortened the long side and retubed the short to make it how I wanted it. If you are keeping it stock just run the tcase from a ford as well..

no but I am pretty sure Marlin is an AA reseller, he can probably get a better price than anyone on it..

It is not a short plate adapter though, it is a spud dude..

I found the part number on my own.  Its 50-5803.  I'm having problems with running the Ford T-Case though.  I'm starting to think about changing the offset on my 44, and using a landcruiser case.  Will the landbruiser case handle the power from the Vortec 350 I've got??

Will the stock minitruck box really handle the power of a nicely built V8?  Cuz if it does, I do already have one of them.  Lol I guess I could just run it till I blow it up.  I just don't want that to happen over memorial day weekend on its maiden voyage.

Hey man, thanks a lot for all the help.  The truck's gonna be ready for memorial day.  You gonna be on the Rubicon over memorial day??  If you are, look for a silver and black 89 flat bed Yota.  All coiled out with '38's and a tube framed front.  We're gonna be camped at spider lake (like everyone else), but you'll probably find me at the box.

got pics? I'd like to do coils but I dunno how to do the clearance for the links..

I'll need to redo my front frame too, I can see it flex like a wet noodle when I turn my steering box, pretty sad..

Believe it or not I'm running the springs, spring seats and control arms from the Ford I robbed the axle and tranny from.  The springs are pretty burly (Rancho 4" lift coils out of a '74 ford 4x4), but i figure with the added weight of the V8 and NP435 as well as the axle itself along with the 38's, the front should move alright.  I'm cutting about a foot and a half off the end of the stock swingarms and sleaving it with 2 1/4" DOM with a bend in it that turns up towards the frame.  The arms will mount the frame on 1" rod ends at the point where my old torsion bar mounts used to be (about 1/2 way under the cab).  The panhard bar will be moved from the front to the top of the axle and be bent so it meets the frame just behid the spring seat and sits outobard of the frame about 6 inches.  So far it looks like the stock IFS steering box can stay just as it is.  Right now the axle is hanging from the coils, but my links haven't been welded in yet.  Doesn't look like it's going to happen this weekend either since the truck's outside and its supposed to pour all the way up to monday around here.  I'll post some pix for u in a couple weeks when the front axle and suspension is in place the way i want it.  This weekend looks like It'll be  for fabricating brackets to be welded in next weekend and may be taking my DOM to the exhaust shop so they'll bend it for me.
