i think the 44s are all inter changeable at the C's so you can run chevy outers with a for housing or waggy housing, correct?

I thought the '85 ish Grand Wagoneer offered a closer WMS for the Tacoma ?
~probably not as easy to locate one tho'~
the standard waggy (fm muh reading) requires wheel spacers to more closely match rear wheel WMS,

Maybe someone could clarify ?

The "standard" one is 60.5" WMS, compared to the taco rear 60.75." I believe most just run low backspaced wheels, 2.5"ish, and no spacers.

No one has mentioned the FJ60-62 axles? I was looking into this with my 4runner. (Sold it for other reasons)Flip the housing, (to get the driverside drop)cut and turn your knuckles to the caster you want. Notch the diff housing for the ring gear to fit,(you don't flip the 3rd member, still running same as before) weld your spring perches and you are basically done. If you get a FJ62 axle you will already have  4.11's not to mention none of the expensive Dana steering issues. Throw some high steer arms and maybe wheel spacers and you have a cool all toyota SAS. Around 60" WMS-WMS and you can go up to 5.29's and have matching front and rear gears, Dana guys don't after 4.88's.

FJ80 has WMS at 63.5." A little wider is better, you can avoid running low backspaced wheels like the Waggy 44 guys. A lot of Dana folks get away with 5.29s in the rear and 5.38s in the front.

For driver's side drop, I'd be tempted to find an FJ80 (1991-1992) semi float rear, which you could Get fairly easily since no one wants them, cut the ends off and burn on some Toy birfs (your flavor mini or 80 series) choosing ideal faster and pinion angle and keeping the 9.5" diff up front.  If you choose mini birfs, run any length of custom inners you want.  If you choose 80 birfs, keep inners stock length and run a 63.5 driver's side dropped 9.5" front axle.  FJ62 and FJ60 rear housing would work as well and may be cheaper.  You want more width on a taco--at least 63"  My 2 cents...
