Front straight axle inner

Aloha all

I was installing a new front third member and found a metal ring floating on my inner axle any Ideas.

Pictures certainly help.

Where was it?  What did the ring look like? It could be the clip that belongs in a groove at the splined end, designed to keep it in the differential.
The axle should have, or originally had baffles, but I  don't see how they could deteriorate or break apart to where they could be called a ring, rather than what they are.

Hm weird. I dont think so... the ones ive seen are welded in
91 Toyota High pinions f&r.

there is a c-clip that goies inside the birf joint that locks when you slide the inner and outer together. thats probably it. if you can yank your inner and outer shafts appart easily then i would say its deffinately it.

either the c clip that holds the birf to the inner axle or the metal ring spring on the inner axle seals ? my guess would be an axle seal spring deal (not sure what those are called)
