Can you tell me what this is?
« on: Mar 28, 2010, 12:10:02 AM »
Hey guys,

Well i am a complete noob. I was checking on the oil on my truck and noticed that there is a hose the is loose that connects the manifold to the intake. Can you guys tell me what I need to replace this? I dont know if i can simply replace it with another hose or if i have to buy one from the dealer. Am i risking anything by running it like this? Thanks for your help and please dont laugh at me lol. Its out of an 86 22r by the way.

Here are the pics:

i believe it is a heat riser that takes the warm air around the exhaust and a vacuum operated flap opens on the intake tube to direct it into the carb. it helps heat the motor up faster i never ran one on my truck for over two years you can get them at auto part stores for a few bucks i just took that and the shield off made it look alot cleaner but thats my  :twocents:

It is the heat riser, it is a good thing for it to be hooked up during warm up. The diaphragm on the top of the air cleaner will open this during the warm up cycle of your truck giving it the hot air from the manifold to feed off of. the diaphragm will close once warmed. It is not a critical part for the operation of your truck.
