battery mounts
« on: Mar 08, 2010, 02:49:59 PM »
I am having problems to a solution. Do I run an optima after all the disgust of them on Pirate4x4 with a battery mount from: http://www.artecwelding.com/ If you did these which mount does everyone like best? I will have to measure to see which one fits.
Also I was thinking an odessy battery but no one has them stock, and when something happens I will have to order the battery.
Or just go to the dealer for the factory battery mount and call it done.

I saw a cool way to mount an optima battery.  The guy was running dual optima batteries in his scout.  He had converted it over to a v8 and dovetailed the fron so that there was no room under the hood.  His solution was to mount them upside down under the bed.  Because they had the round cells he was able to drill holes on the edges between the cells and bolt then to the undersie of the bed.  Sounds sketchy but it looked way legit.  They werent goin anywhere.  You could do the same thing in the engine compartment though.  Bolt the battery to the fender.  I think it would hold better than the stock battery mount.  They sometimes come loose.

you can always move them.  A lot of people move their batteries to under their bed, when they run duals.  I could probably fit another battery under the hood in my '86 4runner with a 22re, but it'd be a tight squeeze.  It'd be near impossible in my '91 with the 3.0

i think the only way you could make it work under the hood is to design an intake that frees up space near your factory air box. most of them do. and then probably doing a little modification to the wheel well there. either bang it down a bit or cut some out and weld in a plate for the battery to sit on

http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/Ballistic-Generic-Battery-Box-_p_1673.html They came out with a generic one. So am guessing you can run any battery you want which is nice. I will be ordering one soon.

i used one on each side (2) and it holds mine down solid as could be....i can take a picture if you would like.
