Clutch pedal is falling to the floorboard...
« on: Mar 01, 2010, 11:48:41 AM »
The clutch pedal is falling to the floor if u press on it real softly and stays to the floor until you lift it back up n it doesn't engage the clutch when it does go to the floor, the only time is engages is when u push on the pedal quickly..

I thought bleeding the system would help but i just got done doin that n it didnt help at all but i did get a lot of air bubbles out.

 :dunno: anybody have any ideas??

Get a second person to watch the slave cylinder as you push the pedal and watch for it to actuate.

Get a second person to watch the slave cylinder as you push the pedal and watch for it to actuate.

the slave cyl only actuates when u push on the clutch hard, but when the pedal is pushed soflty to the floor, the slave cyl doesnt move.

Sounds like it's time to rebuild the slave cylinder.  It's really easy and only costs around $10 - $15 at your nearest parts store.  That's where I would start.

Either the master or slave cylinder...  I'm not too sure how you can tell which one it is specifically, unless you have a spare for something.  Often times when the seals are blown and they don't effectively push fluid, it leaks out somewhere.  So I would say track down any leaks.  If there is fluid around either cylinder, then you know that one's the problem.

well its def not leakin anywhere, dont see anything n i have never had to top off the fluid. so i guess i'll start with slave cyl.

If it's the master, you'll probably find that your carpeting is soaked with fluid.....

Stay with the factory parts whenever possible!  You can buy the factory clutch master & slave cylinder new made by Aisin for about half of what the dealer charges.  The only diff. is the casting with Toyota symbol is ground off.

I had a problem similar to this and it was my clutch pedal backet. I had no leaks anywhere in the clutch's hydrolic system. When the bracing on the clutch pedal bracket fails, it feels like you get resistance somewhere but its just the metal bending.

I had to pull my bracket out (big awckward thing under the dash) bend it back to normal and weld it back up/brace it.
that hole on the left is where the clutch master cylinder comes through the firewall

That might be yer problem.

I ended up replacing the master and slave cylinders before I figured that out.
