stripped spark plug hole

one of the spark plugs on my 7m stripped when i was trying to replace it  :rivers: . has anybody had any luck with helicoils or anything else cheap? i'm hoping to keep the head on cuz head bolts and gaskets are expensive for my motor and this is my dd
93 pickup,  sas'd, 36in tsl's, tundra front clip, taco bed, kenwood, apexi intake,  7mgte.

i had something similar happen on my 95 t100 3.4 v6 but the plug actually blew out of the hole taking the threads and coilpack with it go figure ive never heard of that before hand or after ever happening but i went down to the local advance and needless to say $9.50 later my plug hole was rethreaded and still holding up almost 2 yeard later shes 290000 strong last week id go with the heliocoil if it were my truck

forgot to mention there is a dent in the underside of my hood visible on the outside from where it blew out at

did you use helicoil some other brand? the motor had some of those long life plugs in it, no tellin how long they were stuck in there

Threaded insert.

Check mcmaster carr,  they have specific ones for spark plugs.

Had the #4 blow out on my turbo 4Runner, went with heliocoil and never had any trouble.

i just got a kit from alcoa now i just hope i can get most of the shavings out of the cylinder head. one more  :beer: and i'm on it. thanks for the help

try a magnetic screwdriver and set that cylinded jus under top dead center and you should be able to get em all...its not like you have to worry bout messn up the threads  lol sorry had to put it

magnetic screw driver wont really work with aluminum LOL......try using a vacuum with a small piece of vac line with some kind of funnel or whatever to size it down yea know, im sure with the turbo you wouldnt want any lil shavings getting into your exhaust.... of course when you tap coat the vanes with grease to capture the shavings...

when i did it on a friends celica we just fired her up and let her run.... that was bout 60k miles ago so i guess it didnt hurt anything lol...

ok im going to pretend thats what i ment and some how the grease need the magnent to stick to the screwdriver to beable to pick up the alum. ahhhhhhh who am i kiddn im jus try to make my self feel better after that haha

Crazy. I just today, finished fixing my 4runner, because  whoeverput in the previous plugs, crossthreaded em, and the plug broke because it was so tight. I had to pull the head, and take it to a machine shop, and have em drill it, and use a time sert, not a heli-coil. That sucked sooo bad. I hope this works for you. I wouldve gone that route, but The plug broke. Good luck.
