I ran 35's with stock 4.10 gears and it did quite well on the highway for having a stock 22re and 5 speed.  Now I have 37's with the stock 4.10 gears.

bring extra birfs when you go wheelin' unless your not heavy on the skinny pedal...i ran 35's with 529's and stock brifs for two years and never broke one...i also ran several trails like that as well (rubicon) now i have longs for insurance reasons

been on 35's  and 4.10s daily driven in 2 different trucks.  81 p'up, 22r, welded rear.  started on 36tsls and that sucked, switched to bfg km1.  didnt pay attention to the tire wear and only time i really noticed it was in the parking lot.

then switched to bfg km2s and noticed how much tire wear i was actually getting from the spool.  it quickly wore the leading edge off the center lugs(8" wheel), whereas my fronts still looked brand new. but offroad traction won out so i kept the spool in.  i put in a marlin clutch (1600) that helped a ton offroad and in-town driving. stock birfs held for a long time but passenger side is "clicking".  1 set of spares then longs.

now in my 87 runner SAS  the 22re seems to do a lot better job with the 4.10s and 35s. spool is NOT going back in.  not practical in a DD. i am saving for aussies at least.  duals on the ups truck.  37s next year and i will stick with the 4.10s and do some motor mods. mostly because the guys i wheel with have 4.10s and spare 3rds are really cheap around here.

What kind of gas mileage are you guys getting with a 22re with 4.10's and 35's? Ive got 32's and 4.30's right now and im getting around 18mpg....what will it drop to with 35's? btw 5 speed....

What others get won't necessarily be what you get, and there's no exact equation to know what it will drop to if it does.

I understand that. I'm callin upon the  experience of the guys that have done it with stock gears to see what ppl are getting for mileage...

4.30 and 33's work great for DD. I'll assume 4.10 and 35's will SUCK in town but will purr on the highway. 16-22mpg :)

im getting roughly 16-18 mpg.  i also dont remove any trail gear which would probaly help mileage(winch, spare, jack, spare parts)  its a trail truck that is also my daily driver, not a street truck that occasionally sees dirt. havent gotten a speeding ticket in almost 3 years so thats one good thing.

Now who is from the central valley?  How would 35's and stock gears do up the 4 lanes?

i use to have 4.10s with 35s a nd hated it so much. went to 5.29s and never looked back. spools are good for wheeling not so much for the street.

ran 33s with 4.10s, hated it. Bought 5.29s and put 35s on. Well worth it, saves on the clutch too.

Don't expect t use 5th much at all, 4th only on the highway, and likely nothing more than 3rd for the mountains, unless you run the rpm's near redline(if you have a tach) before shifting.

If you are on the aggressive side of the driving spectrum, you will likely hate it, if not, you can put up with it until you swap the gears.

What is the current size tire you are running now?
'90 black X-cab mod'd 3.0, 33's/4.88's, rear ARB, custom bumpers, sliders, safari rack, etc.
'91 Blue X-cab 22re, 35's/5.29's,Truetrac front, ARB rear, dual cases, and custom Safari flatbed, bumper, interior.

Right now im running 35's on a 4.10 diff, only until i can set up my rear 5.29..

The 4.10's blow compared to the 5.29's in my opinion.
Even with the 4.10's i can still pull most of the hills around here in 4th gear, some in 5th.  Just with 5.29's i had more power pulling those hills in the higher gears.

The only thing i will say i do like about the 4.10's is cursing on the highway, the rpms are in a much better range than with the 5.29's.

I enjoy cursing on the highway no matter what gear I'm in  :gap:
