Nah, just a little jab at the turtles pace orders are filled. I have nothing but the highest respect and admiration for Marlin. The recent success and growth are well deserved and long overdue. Like the Formula buildup, I too am building a Marlin equipped rock crawling Toy, when I finally have the $ to spend, I've already waited as long as I can stand it. Once I can afford to order the stuff, I'm anxious to install it. Having to wait even longer is frustrating, so I hijack the thread to beech. Sorry, I'm better now. It won't happen again.

We have been very busy at the shop. Our tube bender is now dead and out of service.  A new pump assembly is on the way.  Without the ability to bend tube, Andy has few a few hours into the buggy. It's getting very close to done.

Here are some photos of the brake lines.

Up front Andy set up the lines similar to a FJ40 cruiser. One line drops down to a "T" on the front axle. Then smaller lines at the knuckle connect the lines to the calipers.

Everyone starts off in life crawling but lots of us grow up and still are crawling around everywhere

Andy choose to redo the rear spring hangers. This time he started with large plates on the inside of the frame rails. A tube was brought down from the cage and through the frame to support the hanger from above.

Jess at High Angle Drivelines came through with a set of his rock bashing .188" wall extra strength drive shafts.

Andy built a cage around the rear CV joint to protect the driver/passengers in the event of joint failure.

Hi Chris, been watching your buildup over on the pirate board and thought I'd come over and check out the marlin crawler board.

I just orderd a formula toy chasis, and doing research on all the different setups. I was planning to build a rig similar to your guy's, both trail friendly and comp friendly, with a back seat. I plan on not moving the engine  back the 8", for more front weight and for better driveline angles, and hopefully alittle more room in th back seat. Would it be possible for you to take a few somewhat overhead photo's showing first the motor radiator section and another one of the dash to the back seat area, so I can see where everything ends up with the motor 4 inches back.

Thank s alot

We have made some progress but I have not taken any more photos. I would have to say that the best fab work so far is how the rear shocks, fuel cell and bumpstops all came together. To get more flex from the springs we moved the springs inboard to 29". This means that the shocks had to go outside of the springs. To keep the shocks upright and out of the way of the fuel cell the frame was cut and notched so that the shocks won't hit at full articulation. Also with the springs inboard there is nothing to mount the bumpstops to because the springs are now narrow compared to the frame. This is the best fab work I have ever seen from Andy. This assembly has to be finished before I can shoot it. It just does not look right unless you see all of this section as a single integrated unit. We should be able to show photos tomorrow night.

Now that most of the truck is together we found we had just a little too much shackle angle in the rear. To bring the shackles up more verticle, the rear shackle mounts needed to be moved back about 3/4". This put the mount behind the frame. Andy made a set of custom mounts that weld to the back of the frame.

Mounting the large 20 gal fuel cell, shocks, and bumpstops with the inboarded springs took some serious work.

I can install anything, Just ask me. Need advice, I can give any advice on any install job. At my work I am known as Installer Joe or for the lay folk, Joe the installer.

Here are some photos of the bumpstops and shock travel. Normally the shocks would be on the inside of the springs. Putting them outside the springs requires must more shock length. We are using up 12" of the 14" Bilstein 5125 shocks.

To make room for both the large fuel cell and the shocks, the frame was notched around the rear shocks. Here are shots showing the distance between the shock and frame through the range of travel.
