That Radiator should have had a shroud.  Make a small box and flush mount the fan to it. use some foam PUcap tape on the shroud seal and keep from rubbing thru your radiator. My fans are about 1/4" from the radiator, keeps cool even in the desert.

you can't see them here, but maybe if you look hard enough.

That Fiesta Radiator on Phils buggy cools, how does he get away with it? Does Propane run cooler than gas? or is it the wieght thing?

PS I wonder where the idea for the clocking Tcase adapter came from? I need one for my Project Turbo truggy soon.

I spent an hour going through a radiator book today looking at all the different things we can fit in there. The reason this is so hard for us is the steering box is mounted on the inside of the frame. So we can't put a stock radiator in because it would hit the steering box. I looked at the numbers on Phil's rad and it has 140 Sq inches of surface area. That's nearly the same as the 149 Sq inches we had with the Samurai radiator. We really believe in the steering setup we have and none of us want to go back to an outside mounted steering box.

Marlin believes we had two bad thermostats. We tested the Samurai Radiator with a 190 stat and we had some minor overheating just driving the buggy in the parking lot doing front burns. We changed to a 180 stat and still had problems with high idle just sitting parked.

The day before Marlin left for Moab, Angelo and I tore out the Samurai radiator and mount and botched in a quick replacement using a radiator we had at the shop. This was too tall for permanent use but was much larger at 240 sq inches. Just for reference a stock Toyota radiator has a surface area of 350 sq inches. Once the group started out on the trail the buggy overheated quickly.

During the drive down Moab rim, Rocky reported that the temp was all over the place. So Marlin replaced the thermostat again and put a larger electric fan on the buggy. The rest of the weekend there were no more problems with over heating.

So we believe we now have sufficient cooling for the motor, now we just need to get it to all fit under the hood. So back to the radiator book. The largest unmodified unit that will fit is the Samurai rad. Dean pulled out a 4.0 L Jeep radiator from the junk pile out back and brought it in. This units is really wide and narrow 31" wide X 10" tall core. This is much wider than our frame rails but is the proper height. This radiator was rotten but was really handy for fitting and checking the space we had to work with.

I checked with the local radiator shop and they had a new version in stock for cheap and for just $55 more they will shorten it down for us so that it will fit between the frame rails. The overall surface of the radiator after the 9" "nip and tuck" will be 230 sq inches, nearly the same as the unit that worked in Moab.

WHITE_TRASH

On the xj radiators prior to 92 (I think) they didnt have a filler neck and cap.  they used a remote fill setup with a recovery tank setup that was totally sealed.  After that period they used a normal filler and the radiator has a neck and cap.  Just a thought depending on what you guys are doing.  Rig looks great, looking forward to seeing it in sept.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

There has been much debate at the shop as to what lockers to run in the buggy. Some here want Detroit's front and rear because they don't require turning on and off. Others want the ARB's for better turning ability. Currently we have a compromise with an ARB in the front and a Detroit in the rear. A rear ARB won't help much with the steering, but in front it will allow the truck to turn tighter. To operate the front locker we wanted a easy to reach/operate switch. In big trucks, 2 speed rear diffs are a common. It just so happens that Angelo use to work a big rig repair depot. So when I asked Angelo if he could get one of those shifter mounted switches, he knew exactly were to get it. Within minutes, Angelo returned with the switch and a short harness to connect it to our harness. The 2 speed switch is made by Eaton, part #032861. The Harness is made by Cole Hersee and is part #40102. Here is a photo of the switch.

In this position the switch is very easy to operate. Up for on and down for off.

Looks nice, but have Andy fab up a nice mount for it, lose the zip ties.

KYOTA

I guarantee you thats just temporary to make sure it worked correctly first before going to the trouble of fabbing a bracket.

There is a special bracket made for mounting this switch. It's been ordered but has not arrived yet. The zip ties were just to hold it in place for the trip to Moab.

TrackVino

Whats wrong with zip ties, it looks cool, kind of like that trailer, joe dirt look.  :hammer:

How did Marlin's Front dig case hold up? I am REALLY interested in this T-case! I cant wait for them to come out.

Marketing

No problems at all. This week we will pull the unit out and replace it with a standard tcase for the Ftoy event this coming weekend.
