22re 4runner stumble
« on: Dec 30, 2009, 09:04:28 PM »
hey i have a 1986 4runner with a 22re and im having issues with the engine stumbling just off idle and when im driving at cruising speed with the throttle just cracked. under load it seems to run fine (other than an intermittant ping) and it idles fine. i have a feeling its the tps thats worn out in that "sweet spot". anybody have any ideas? id like to get some input before i throw any parts at it. thanks :help:

Sounds like TPS to me.  Probably half of all problems with how these things drive are due to it being such a nasty cobbled-together design in the first place.

thanks for the reply. tps is what it sounds like to me. its just theyre pretty expensive new. maybe ill try to find one at a junkyard to test with. gotta love the spider web of vacuum lines on the 80's smogged engines. thatll make em burn cleaner. thanks again  :beerchug:
