IROK RADIAL VS. BIAS
« on: Dec 14, 2009, 12:03:23 AM »
LOOKING AT THE 37"

RADIAL 37X12.50X15

BIAS 37X14.00X15

Are the bias more aggressive???

Which one would you get if you were faced with the decision??
Thanks

i read on super swampers web site that the 36 irok is actually bigger than the 37

http://www.intercotire.com/tires.php?id=6&g=1

if you look at OD, the 36 is taller

bias is a softer compound that airs down really well and sticks, but they dont last long on the road at all.
radial is a harder compund that lasts on the road better but not much better than the bias irok...

Which tread are more aggressive??
Or are they the same?

EDIT: Nevermind, on that link they say that the tread is 21/32 on boh radial and bias.
The radial is 13.50 wide and the bias is 14.71 if I remember right.
I like the idea of a 13.5 over and almost 15" wide tire.

I ran the bias 39.5's on 15x10 beadlocks. I would be at 2-3 pounds in front with 130lbs of water in each and 4psi in the rear, and I had a lot of mixed feelings. For one, with 10in wheels these tires are BALLOONS! second, they measured out at 36.5in when aired down, third, in order to get decent grip and flex on a light rig, they have to be next to no psi and down that low they would often flex sidewall down to the rim and roll over. Almost too flexible.. These tires would impress the hell out of me sometimes and dissapoint me at others. They are horrible when wet.. An 8in rim would make them work much better, but red crawlers are what I want so these tires will never measure up... On the plus side, iroks are super tough, good on snow, and will impress the hell out of you from time to time. BUT In dry rocks and driving to and from the trails, 37in KM2's last longer and stick better... :twocents:

It really depends on what your main use will be!  For just trails, go with the bias 36" Iroks. If you are gonna be driving on pavement alot, you would probably be better off with the radial!  I have 36" bias Iroks on 8" rims on my 4runnner and I love them!   They have impressed me many times!  On rocks, in the mud, they do great in many different types of situations!!

The 36x13.50-15LT Iroks are taller, wider, and lighter than the 37x14.00-15LT Iroks. Makes me want a pair because 66 pounds is really light for a 37 i believe.   :best:

i have noticed that bias has a roundness to them, and the radial iroks are more flat on top. really dont look like balloons.

i run the 37x12.50x15 radial iroks lovem, i dont like the bais they like said before ballon out to much. i have run 36x13.5x15 rads before, but i like my 12.50's better. me and Big B ( he runs 36x13.50x15 radials iroks) ran in the snow yesturday, up sky ranch and did not air down went past all snowmobile tracks and was making our own tracks and never got stuck nor did we have to air down, one of the best times up in the snow, if you any amount of driving  on pavement go with radials. if its a trailer queen then go bais. big thing to remember is you dont have to put alot of air in them for the street. i normally run somewhere between 20-25 psi for the street. thats where we were at yestuday in the snow. knee deep white stuff.

This video is a perfect example of how low I had to air them down to get traction. At 2 minutes in they pinch almost to the rim... I was pretty impressed that I didnt slide all the way in the groove what with the rain and all

Bias all the way.  They'll flat spot if left in the same spot for a couple of days but it's well worth the improvement of a bias ply tires in the rockers vs. a radial.  My bias ply Iroks act like a wrinkle wall drag tire when aired down  :D

so what most people have said so far, if they have radials they love them and would always rund rads. the people with bias say the same thing about bias. unless im mistaken none of you have said that you've ran both bias and radial and like one over the other. i think piece did tho

I am currently runin 37 12.50 15 irok radials and am not happy with them. Sidewalls are way to weak. Next set i get will definately be bias. My radials are only 2 months old only beem out 3 times and 3 of the 4 tires are full of plugs on the sidewall. Maybe where most people go wheelin their fine but in so cal we wheel the hammers alot and bias is the only way to go. I learned my lesson the hard way :twocents:

Sick video!  That kind of wheeling is why I love the Iroks!  They look like they were hooking up good.

Bias all the way for wheelin. But 6 months of daily driving 3 miles a day and 3 wheelin trips have mine down to 80% which sucks. I'll be looking for a set of 33 a/ts soon to run for daily driving. Off road they do great aired down to about 5psi and no bead locks and I've never ran off a bead.
