Don't think I'll have my truck done in time. Looks like a good time though. How hardcore are the trails? If I did get it done I wouldn't have longfields and I'd be 500 miles from home lol. Think my stock birfs would hold up to 37s with no locker? I need to buy some 4.88s for my e-locker and get it put in the rear. Also need to get busy on building my 2 square front shafts. Good news though I did find a set of driveshafts for $25 for spares and I think I sold my old wheels and tires.

I've changed my mind on the 4.88s. The reason I was wanting to go that route anyway was because I already have a 3rd with 4.88s in it and it'd save me a little cash. I knew I'd be unhappy with 4.88s so I am doing 5.29s. Hopefully getting those for Christmas. I am out of school until the 11th of January so maybe I'll get some pictures of me attempting to setup my 3rds. I found another e-locker still in the taco rear housing for $175 but it's about a 3 hour drive away and needs a R&P might get ambitious and go pick it up this weekend. I'll probably get my square front d-shaft built in about 2 weeks as well. My last day of school for this semester is Thursday finally! More pics will be coming soon I hope.

Got my 5.29s installed in my e-locker 3rd member. Went really well. I also swapped in my Tacoma rear since it was setup for an e-locker. It desperately needed a wheel bearing and I am poor so no way was I going to take it to a shop. I made up a SST for myself.

This bolts on to the backing plate

Then you place it in the press and begin pressing on the axle

This is the only picture I have of the gear install. I am checking runout and it was at .005 which is good.

After I got the wheel bearing conquered and the gear setup done it only took me about 2 hours to swap out my IFS rear with my Tacoma rear including bleeding the brakes. I do need to still make some brackets for the e-brake cables though. I am buying a complete front axle tomorrow to modify it to accept my other e-locker. I'll be glad when I can quit spending and start wheeling...

Got all my stuff together to do my e-locker in the front. Including a complete front axle I picked up for $80. Well got it all cleaned up and modded for the e-locker thursday. Started tearing into my e-locker tonight to get all the old bearings pulled off and well only one needed pulling

. The big bearing side of the e-lockers spun freely and it fell off in my hand. So now I am looking for a carrier.

Check out that wicked groove. It's so loose that no amount of sleeve retainer will help...

Hey Jake did you just bolt the Caliper to the backside of the knuckle ears, without grinding the mounting surface on the caliper itself, to get the rotor to sit in the caliper centered? I know u have to on a FJ Rotor and IFS hubs (thats what i am running)

If I keep my Toy axle, i will redo it to what u are running

I actually had to space it out with a 7/16" washer or 1/2" washer... I break it down real nice in post #8

Got my in cab winch controller for my 8274 wired up today. Easy as pie, I don't know why anyone would pay $75 for one. An electrical newb could install one in an hour. Heres my how-to pictures my cell phone blows so sorry for the pics quality...

While looking at this I decided it was still confusing. Let me try to clarify if anyone is planning on doing this.

Ok obviously unhook your winch from the battery first. I used some old extension cord that wouldn't pass OSHA standards anymore so my dad gave it to me. I used crimp on electrical connectors with shrink tube to keep them from corroding. Hook up the white wire to the left side of the left bank of the solenoids. There is a piece of flat copper connecting the bottom and top solenoids. Hook it on either one. This will give you a constant 12v. Now I hooked my green wire to the "winch in solenoid" and the black one to the "winch out". Now run it into your cab. I used the factory rubber grommet on the passenger side with a snipped hole. I bought 2 little tiny push button switches from Grainger and a illuminated rocker switch from O'reillys. The illuminated switch gets the white wire from the winch to the supply tab. Then I made a wire that plugged into the load tab of the rocker and had 2 leads to hook into the in and out push buttons. Then just hook the green "in" wire to the in switch and the black "out" wire to the out switch. I realize this method would allow you to power the "in" and "out" solenoid at the same time but you'd have to try to do it which would be dumb. Don't forget the ground for your illuminated switch. That is it save your money and do it yourself!

Got my rear e-locker wired up and it worked the first time! I used a d.p.d.t switch on/on. Also got a carrier, for my front e-locker coming from Massachusetts. I got bored Sunday and decided to rebuild a set of extra lockouts I had. I pulled one apart and it was missing the little ball that sits on top of the spring. So I started digging around. Then it dawned on me. Shotgun shells! I had some turkey loads with number 4 shot copper pellets. They fit perfectly. Thought that might help some people. Heres a pic.

I would be concerned about using a pellet from a shot gun shell. From the factory Toyota uses a steal ball bearing which is hardened. Shot is soft, so that it expands when it hits its target to cause the most damage. I would imagine that the soft ball (Led copper or steal) will quickly deform, or even just rub apart.

I dropped one of mine when I rebuilt my hubs and just picked up a new one at Lowes, for a less than $.25

meh im not worried about it. I've shot turkey with these and sometimes when cleaning them I'll find a pellet. These type were never deformed. If this was a constantly used "bearing" I'd be worried but no more than it'll get used I'm not worried about it.

You are right. Its not used very often, and even if it did get messed up, it would cause no damage, you would simply have to replace it.

Been working on the front housing some more just tinkering until I get my "new" e-locker carrier.

I re-drilled the perches to maybe move my axle forward another inch but I don't know if I'll have my steering box far enough forward or not.

Performed what I call the 5/8" nut mod. a 5/8" nut fits perfectly in the steering stops I have 2 in each stop.

And the housing modified for the e-locker.

how do you like the tacoma rear axle? does it make the tires stick out to far? i cant decide on either ifs with aussie and 1.5in spacers or tacoma with the e locker with 2.5in spacers? i would like to stay away from running wheel spacers altogether and install a fj60 or 62 front axle? what do you think?

I have the IFS hubs on my front axle which makes it the same width as an IFS rear and you can't notice the wider Taco rear at all. I know its wider and I can't tell so I know no one else can. The FJ60 axles would be cool if someone made high steer that wasn't $800.
