dang. i have an  e locker axle out of an o4 taco ill be puttin in my runner soon, it sounds like you would definitley recommend doing what you did to your taco axle?  i plan on wheelin my truck pretty hard and dont want to have issues with the axle housing.

Yeah its a common failure.  Mine was cracked BAD around both perches.  I was using the stock 81 u-bolts and bottom plate.  The bottom plate was for a 2.5" axle tube not a 3".  I think those pressure points probably contributed to the failure.  I broke the housing on 37s running some pretty tough trails.  I definitely recommend it.

This is probably my favorite 1st Gen build thread.  Low budget... but done right!

Your front shackle angle looks great for RUF with the stock front hangers.  Does your hybrid pack use the '81 main leaf?

Starting to accumulate more parts.  Twin stick, ARP knuckle studs, TG trunnion bearing eliminator, magnetic drain plugs, and some spacers.

no I didn't even try though.  I thought it'd contribute to spring wrap.  The front axle is far enough forward so I just left it in the stock holes.  I drilled them out of boredom :)

i see you want to get some 4.7's to add to your duals now. stock cases not low enough now? im thinking of going duals instead of just 4.7 and contemplating selling my 4.7 kit for the money to buy the adapter and run stock in both. or would you say the dual ultimate setup is the way to go.

i love the new iroks by the way. i want to get some in a 37 flavor.

When I had 37s the stock duals were plenty low enough.  I'm thinking with the 40s that 4.7s in the rear would be sweet.  I'm ready to quit working on it and go wheeling tho!  How much you want for the 4.7s??  :)

Got my passenger side blinged this weekend.  I installed ARP knuckle studs, TG's trunnion eliminator (it took me about an hour to get the shims right) and did a 5th stud.

im just going to wait till ti sell a few things to buy my adapter and keep the 4.7's it would be a waste of money to sell them plus i'll probably want them later anyways. do you have any pictures of your crossmember mount? if i remember you have a w56 so dual case crossmembers dont bolt up. i have seacrhed on here and pirate have ideas just curious to see what you did. thanks.

nice 5th stud. something i'll be doing later for sure.

I ordered a skid for an 84-95 pickup.  I was able to use the factory rear mounts for the front holes of the skid.  I then welded some angle iron onto the inside of the frame and drilled holes.  I was only able to get 2 bolts in per side.  1 in the front 1 in the rear on each side.  It also had to be pushed to the passenger side about 3/4" of an inch.  Needless to say I'm not 100% satisfied with it but I've flogged on it without issue.  I'd like to get it centered and all 4 bolts in it, deer season is here though so I'll be hunting a lot more than working on my truck...

that was basically my plan with the angle iron. but why does it have to be pushed to the passenger side? and have you seen sky-manufacturing's skid? im thinking of going with their's because you weld the side plates under the frame then use 3 bolts per side to install or remove the cases.

also i bolted on my 35's and flexed it. im axle is still in the sstock spot. with the wheels straight its fine. when they are turned they seem to touch a little but my springs are flat so now i see how you fit your 37's wit ruf and the stock hangers without a tub on the firewall.

Little bit of an update.  I got the driver's side done up to match the passenger side.  ARP studs, TG's trunnion eliminator etc.  Took it wheeling with no breakage .  Still haven't got my twin stick installed.  I'm dreading pulling out the inter-locking pin without dropping the rear case (is it even possible).  I think with the new tires that it'll be a trail rig only now.  Which sucks I really enjoyed driving it on the road.  It is still streetable I just hate to ruin the Iroks on the street  :shake:  I'm wishing I didn't sell my 37s now, I should have kept them for street driving.  I should get out wheeling sometime before winter is over.  Here is the only video I got last time out.  I didn't air down

Wow that obstacle has really changed.

Yeah they need to update some of their trail rankings.  That is supposed to be an easier trail.  I know it looks easy on the video but as always videos never do justice.  That is a big ledge.

The grade never looks as steep on video.  I've watched some video of my friends trucks spinning all fours on a hill that practically looks like level ground but in reality it was hard to even walk up.

you have a taco too nice. i wanted a taco so i could long travel it but then decided i wanted a solid axle.
i just scored an taco rear with e locker i might just retrofit my ifs housing so i dont have to deal with the weaker taco housing.

so the 8274 is that nice huh. with how big it is have you had problems with your approach angle with it always being up front?
