The miracle is how I didn't get  :slap: as drunk as I was... I'm taking a few months off of the sauce now. That should pay for duals next year.

i havent heard that in years.

good luck with your duals. i love mine. i was tired of smelling tranny all the time when i went out playing growing up so i built mine with duals in it. i figured learning duals is more cost effective than melting tranny's as i was learning my truck.
im like you in the fact i need a trailer though- i need one, and a good tow rig too.

also my neighbor came over today and told me he is selling his 85 pickup. pretty much in stock form. except no enginge/tranny/tcase in it, but he has 2 engine/tranny/tcases he is throwing in on the deal. im too new to guess but im guessing its the 22re/wsomething/and top shift-gear drive. the only issue is he is selling the whole truck as is- no parting it out. ill be putting it in the CO for sale section tomorow when i canget pics (if i can) and some more deets. i figured i would throw it out there for you for your duals setup. and you would have alot of extra parts  :dunno: .its alot of money and work but i figured id mention it to ya before i write it up.

Thanks, I'd love to do duals this winter when I re-do the front axle and engine swap... not sure if I can swing getting a whole other truck though. I'd be down just to pick what I need and part the rest; Toyota stuff goes pretty fast on craigslist 'round these parts. Plus driving across the state to get it would be a fun time. Heck, we delivered a third to Dezrik in scenic Meeker earlier this year... we're always up for a road trip.

id like him to part it out too. he could easily make more money that way. i could use a few parts off of it. not enough parts for my wife to let me buy the pickup for. i figured it would be alot of work to get here and pickup the truck and then alot of money (700 bucks) just to get duals. i was kinda i wanting to buy it then store it so in a few years i could build it for my son.

oh well. ill post you if he decides to part it out. your right toyota stuff goes fast. with moab on one side and the trails in the rockies on the other side of me and montrose trails to the south and rangely on the north, toyota stuff gets picked up quick, IF its priced right.

I'm going to sell my truck since I scored a rolled 94 4Runner for $300 yesterday. It has body damage (duh) and some busted glass but it still runs and drives fine. I'm going to ditch the 3.0 for a 3.4 ( :psss: hey Ryan...) since the head gaskets haven't been replaced and it's just an anchor of an engine. I'd like to start out right this time and do duals, 4-link and SAS of course. What options are there for the auto trans or should I swap in a 5-speed?
We've been talking about getting a second rig for camping/dog (90 pound Malamute) and this fell in my lap so why not?

I think yotatech is the only forum I'm NOT on...  :slap:
How do axles from a 78 F150 sound? HP 44 front and 9" rear... linky-linked I guess. What would I need to run driver's side drop on that bad boy?

I'll search, I promise... just too tired from being up since 5:30 and doing a yard sale all day in the heat.

I like autos but am scared off by the adapter to use  good gear-drive cases ($500 or so) And if I do end up sticking on full-size axles I'd have to find a driver's side drop case and all that stuff since I'd probably use those F150 axles. I don't see the point of using huge 1-ton axles unless you're doing super-serious crazy crawling, which I am not. Yet. Let me roll this runner a few times then chop it up into a buggy.

Sure...

Here's the deal:
I'm fixing this 66 Dodge D200 for a ranch:
http://www5.snapfish.com/snapfish/slideshow/AlbumID=1969699027/PictureID=69319106027/a=3591046027_3591046027/otsc=SHR/otsi=SPIClink/COBRAND_NAME=snapfish/

and I'm getting $$ and this 78 F150 4x4:
http://www5.snapfish.com/snapfish/slideshow/AlbumID=1969699027/PictureID=69319107027/a=3591046027_3591046027/otsc=SHR/otsi=SPIClink/COBRAND_NAME=snapfish/

and a guy rolled that 94 last week (and is leaving next week to Georgia):
http://www5.snapfish.com/snapfish/slideshow/AlbumID=1969699027/PictureID=69319104027/a=3591046027_3591046027/otsc=SHR/otsi=SPIClink/COBRAND_NAME=snapfish/

I'm going to pound out the roof and call it good. It'll get a different buld thread; might as well start a new one for the new ride, eh? :dunno:

Got the Runner rolling; drained the trans fluid from the crankcase (yeah, that's what I said...), sold the stock alloys and 31s, added a few quarts of trans fluid to the trans and it fired right up... with a decent amount of smoke though. It moves under its own "power" but acts like there's no motivation, no gumption, no giddy-up. I'm guessing that's normal for a 3.0/auto? Might just be fouled plugs, who knows. But it moves freely and all gears/t-case works; had it up to 85 with cruise and A/C going full-blast without any problems.

So on the way home there came a knock-knock-knocking from the 84's engine. Hooray. No leaks, no rods sticking out the block, oil is fine and coolant is nice n green. W T F. I don't want to stick a sick 3.0 in there and I sure don't want an auto if it sucks down that much power. I'm seeing a 22RE in my future unless I sell the 84 and 4Runner and just start over with a 3gen 3.4 or at least 22RE/5 spd. One of my instructors picked up a 96/97 (?) with 3RZ/5spd from an auction for cheap but won't sell it to me... which is okay since it's a regular cab and I have exactly no money for another truck.

Screw it, everything's for sale and I'm leaving for Europe in 2 days for 2 months. Come and get it; I want something new when I get back.

I haven't seen a lot; only been home a day and I have a ton of stuff to catch up on. I'm going to check U-Pull later this week; they list two 84s so I may try to get an engine harness to fix my not-charging problem. I saw a guy on CoTTORA has an 87 longblock for free in Longmont... might be worth the trip just to have another engine getting built while mine is dying.

Or I may sell everything and just start over with a Jeep.  :punish:

Dan, I'm selling my 20R with the Weber, Pacesetter header, and 90 amp GM alternator.  There's a guy that supposedly might buy it tomorrow, but he's being a PITA trying to haggle the price and make me deliver it to him.  I might tell him to screw off, if you're interested!  I thought you might like to build one up with the 20R head and such.  And the GM alternator is super easy to wire for it to charge.  For you, I'll do $275 and return those rachet straps I owe ya... ;)  And we could just drop it by next time we're in the area!

'80 Pickup, 5VZ-FE engine, A340F transmission, Marlin gear drive adapter, Dual Ultimate transfer cases, 5.29 gears, Detroit rear/Lockrite front locker, 37" Goodyear MTRs, XRC8 winch, custom tube bed and armor

Ah, choices!  :dunno:  :help:

I'd like to stick a 20/22R hybrid in the truck and toss some EFI on it as well but I'm pretty broke for now. I'd pick up that engine for $275 in a second; that's a dang good deal as far as I'm concerned! It'd be cheaper than rebuilding my engine for sure. I've been looking at the engnbldr cams; anyone have any personal experience with them? The reviews seem to be favorable but a few say they don't live up to the hype.

I'd also like to have more spare EFI parts so in a perfect world I'd get your EFI set-up, Mike. I was looking forward to running into you when you came up for Eagle Rock over the summer; there are too many Jeeps out here stinking up the place. One dong with a Liberty asked me if I did the spring-over-axle conversion on my truck...  :rofl2: Jeeps... ugh. I just said "It's a Toyota, awesome is a standard feature." and drove away.

I'm going to check the yard for another engine harness today; it seems that 84 is the super oddball year since it's between carb'd 83 and EFI 85... not much swaps over.

I still need new shoes after the engine and duals so I'd better get a job quick before "down-time" is over and wheeling season starts up again!

You had some room on the hood for the 4th
Yeah but then there's the minor issue of "seeing anything".

WTF happened to that $50 22RE?
That turned into $125 for the auto trans/case and $150 for the engine. Gotta love profits...

I'm trying to find a job now so I don't have the $ to throw at an engine; maybe just main/rod bearings right now.

22re gone through $200

I saw that and was instantly sad for being far away from Pueblo; the first time that's happened. That is a deal though; $200 for more than a complete engine. I'd need the little detail of wiring and fuel pump though... also the whole computer thing.  ::)

In other news (and because the 'reply' box gets screwy after a few lines) there was a 98 Taco x-cab for $1500 on craigslist; 3.4, 5 spd, 4x4... "top cut off after I rolled it; doors were toast". Would have liked to pick it up and stick my driveline under it then scrap my 84. Or rebuild it; who knows.  ???

I missed out on a free 87 shortblock from Longmont that was going to be temporary while I rebuilt the current knocking engine. Since that didn't happen I'm back to square ze-ro. I have been toying with the idea of "fixing" my engine by just replacing the rod bearings:
drop oil pan
undo rod caps
remove/replace bearings
keep on truckin'
No machining the crank, no plasti-gauge, no checking anything; just new rod bearings and hope for the best.

Sounds like a plan?

Drop your '84 body on that Taco frame...That would be cool.  Then just SAS it eventually and roll with the IFS for now.
