Matt you so funny...  :slap:

Yes, Hillclimb on the 27th and PBR as well... maybe some Yuengling if you bring the extra parts down, eh?

Here's my latest "next engine" dream:
20R head, worked/cammed/etc
22R bottom end/forged set-up (boost needs forged goodies)
CT26 t-t-t-turbo
blow-through carb

Why a carb? 'Cause I HATE WIRING!!!
I know it can be done; a lot of drag guys run open carbs and turbos, why not a crawler?

I was gonna say you oughta change your signature since the Runner is gone now... and yes, beer for parts! You want the lager or black and tan or what? I'm bringing back whatever we can fit into Suz's car; maybe 2-4 cases  :crossed:
Did you even do anything with/to the Jeep when you had it?

I have been thinking about engine swaps a LOT lately and a new idea came to me today: 3.8 'charged Pontiac engines; from the mid 90s Grand Prix GTP and the like. Hm... I'd like to keep it all Toyota but if I can figure out something that's newer (OBD 2) pretty easy to get parts for (like any SBC) fairly simple to work on (like any SBC) and has power/injection for decent mileage even with big-ass tires.
Yes, I'd LOVE to stuff a 2JZ or 1UZ engine in here but those things cost two arms and a leg from what I can find. Plus I'm starting to get the boost itch after trading the AllTrac.

Oh, the possibilities!!!

Another: 4.0 DOHC 'charged Olds Aurora engine... all aluminum! Eh? Eh? Eh?

So I just flat-towed my rig to Moab and back...  When we got there, we found that my drivers' side shock hoop ripped off the frame exactly like yours did, despite having rewelded it.  And it actually tore the frame, so I think it weakened too much from the welding.  So when we got to town we had the guys over at "The Shop" weld it back up and gusset it.  As usual, the highway is 10 times harder on my rig than the trail is.  I beat the hell out of it in Moab, and didn't hurt a thing...  but I-70 before we could even get there is what broke it.  I just thought of you, because my shock hoop looked exactly the same.  And I thought I should tell you to throw some good gussets on there so that it doesn't happen again.

BTW, what is it with my rig breaking exactly the same way yours does like 2 weeks later?

I'm leaving mine alone until later this month; leaving for PA tomorrow and not worrying about anything until later. Guess my truck's bad luck...
I've been checking out how to re-do the shock hoops so they stay on next time, still have some 3/16" plate leftover from repairing the frame... that oughta help some. From the looks of it I may have to weld that 3/16" in a box around the frame, like a sleeve, and gusset the crap outta it.

Heard back from that Tundra, the owner won't sell the engine/trans/wiring for what I offered (which was junk yard prices) but will let the whole thing go for $1500... now I just need $1500 and a trailer to get it home.

Damn I hate money...

it is better to but the entire donor....

There is wiring and other pieces that you would prolly forget in the donor and you can part it to recoup some of the money you spent. Donor and all I spent $2300 on everything for my swap- new plugs wires timing belt 1"body lift new seals etc.. I parted the rest fo the 4runner and recouped enough money to bring it down to around 1700. How many miles are on the tundra?

And that trans will cost you a lot to use since the tcase is drivers drop you will need another adapter and crossmember to use it. It would be easier to buy a 89-95 R150F

I'd like to buy the whole thing and part it out after the swap is done but... money being what it is (not here) it probably won't happen. Was your BL for the hood clearence? I saw a few people mention something about the hood on 2nd gens hitting the timing cover or something. I'd make a vent for it to avoid having to do a BL. That Tundra has about 100k on it; not too bad I think? I forgot about the t-case being driver's drop... dammit.

It'll have to wait; I'll probably just go el-cheapo and rebuild another 22R with some goodies instead of going with a bigger engine.

body lift is to clear the intake and mine had a 100,000 on it also. I just did a tune up and replaced seals. IF you decide to do either the 3.4 or the 4.3 let me know and i will help as much as possible since I have done both now

I'll be back in CO later this week after a hellacious east-coast trip... it was tons of fun and tons of stress at the same time! I highly reccomend it to anyone wanting to gain and lose about 20 pounds. Unbelieveable...
For this pile to get to the Jambo it needs:
shock hoops re-welded
caliper bolt threaded/heli-coil
alternator that works
CB
tires

That's pretty much it, really... I thought it'd be a much longer list. Hm... I'm probably forgetting a few big things. While I was in PA a friend picked up a mostly complete EFI system at a yard sale for $20. He said "It's like 3 milk crates full of 22RE stuff, you want it?" Well, sure! Can't beat the price when the yard wants $25 or so for upper/lower intake manifolds... then injectors, AFM/MAF, fuel lines, wiring and so on.

I'll take EFI for $20, Alex.

Might need a computer though...

:woohoo:
FINALLY back in Colorado!
Tomorrow is the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, after which I'll be picking up the above mentioned crates of 22RE EFI stuff. I talked to my friend and he says it's about 90% complete; some wires are cut. Here's a brief list of what's there:

intake
injectors
exhaust manifold
wiring to cab/ECU
ECU
VAM
intake parts (plastic bits)
fuse boxes
timing cover
water pump
starter
dizzy
ignitor/stuff
IFS steering box
crank pulley
fan/clutch

And for $20; how can I say no? Now I'm on the fence about doing EFI swap before the Jamboree... I've got a fair amount of welding to do and maybe some RUFs if the guy ever calls back; otherwise I'm gonna rock the Pro Comps up front.

Can 2wd rear springs be used for RUFs or do I need 4wd rears? I didn't see this covered in any FAQs about RUFs...

Sorted out the pile-o-parts today; looks like it was sitting outside for a spell. The TB was corroded shut and there's a lot of surface rust/corrosion on stuff. But since it was all free (not $20) I'm not complaining. It looks like the guy was planning some sort of conversion since a lot of the wiring is cut/stripped/sketchy and the VAM/MAF/AFM whatever has some long-ass home made extension for the wiring. Looks like I may be able to still use some of this stuff but I see a few trips to the junkyard in a few months once I get this EFI swap going. I've made it my winter project; screw big projects during good weather!

Today I'm putting on (another) new muffler and adjusting the rear drums/park brake. Tomorrow will be the front half--brake caliper bolt and shock hoops. I'd like to get a square front shaft before the Jambo but it may not happen... $ is tight after vacation.

New muffler is titties, figured out I need a stronger spring to shut the butterflies to drop the idle, park brake is way better (actually works now) but now I want to check out the park-brake mod... but can't find it anywhere. It makes the front brakes into a line-lock or something; it's been a while so I can't remember where I saw it.

For F's sake I need info here!!!!

Yes, 2wd springs can be used.  They tend to have more arch in them since 2wd trucks were spring under in the rear.  Good choice for RUF's if you need abit of lift out of them.  You'll most likely need 2 rear packs to combine into a pack for the front.  Most run 6-7 springs.

Awesome, thanks Aaron. Now that I re-read that it looks like that mod is for rear discs... guess I'll add that to "The list".
In other news I fixed the driver's shock hoop yesterday and will be redoing the passenger side today. I couldn't notice any difference driving on 3 shocks vs 4; I thought there'd be more body roll or sway but not really.
Later this week (more likely next) I'm going to the yard to yank some springs; I'm thinking I can use some of the existing Pro Comp leaves to bolster the 2wd spring pack. More like hoping I can, really. The current front springs are about 44" long (too short IMO) so I'm going to see how long the 2wd springs are; hopefully 46" or better... my shackle angle SUCKS!

Rear springs are 47" long. 2wd and 4wd are the same spring. 4x4 springs just have a military wrap leaf

Thank you, I'll probably get down to the yard next week. Maybe. Perhaps. If time allows. I think.  :shake_head:

I'm currently moving the rear axle back about 1"-2"; I forgot how to prop up the frame and it fell off the hi-lift. Luckily the floor jack was in place to prevent further disaster; now it's resting securely on the sliders/tire/wheel-jack stands.

What I wouldn't give to have a real lift!

Careful with that.... I had to have knee surgery last year from a similar incident where the jackstands didn't catch it...  Lifting vehicles scares the hell out of me now (but I do it anyway).  And I won't touch a Hi-Lift.

Think your truck will be trail worthy by Saturday?  I'm going to be going up Saran Wrap and Eagle Rock on Saturday...  Then we're hitting Wheeler Lake on Sunday.  You're welcome to join.  I'm in Colorado Springs every so often now visiting my girl friend, so give a honk or something if you see me.

Almost have the axle back on now; taking a break. This wasn't the first time something slipped on a jack; I almost dropped my Celica onto its engine (removed from underneath) before I was ready for it. Coulda sucked... smashed intake, valve cover, wiring etc. Luckily I saved it somehow.

I'd be up for Saturday; about what time are you thinking of heading up? Want to meet at the Home Depot or up Old Stage somewhere?  I have OBA (sorta) so we can air up afterwards too.

Tomorrow I'm going to re-do the upper rear shock mount and do something about the rattling bed floor. Hooray, heavy-ass diamond plate!

Got my rear end all back together; I moved it almost a whopping 2"... better than 0 inches I guess. Eventually the front will be moved up a bit; maybe this winter since it's a little more involved than the rear with the steering and all that goodness.

Nope, had a CV installed when I did the 63s. Took it out for flex check and it doesn't come apart so it'll be good.
