Forgot to mention the Warn 9000xi, free found beer (we should have held on to those) and yeah I was worried enough about rolling back further if I hopped out, it was like 6' down to begin with! I had to use the rear tire as a ladder, took me about 5 mins to get out. I'd totally do it again.

Best line of the day. Dan, "What kind of idiot goes up a trail like that?" Me, "You!" Dan, "Ok, get out and film it atleast"

Famous last words...

It was a gift...
and I figured people would get a laugh out of it; it's a really comfortable shirt too.

Sliders are a-goin' on today; I'd get pics but my camera has officially bit the dust. The lens doesn't pop out at all anymore; it used to take a few tries but now it's just D-E-D dead. Awesome.

Meh, cut/grind/weld...

Got the sliders on; they support the weight of the truck prety well. I can lift up each side and clear about a foot between the tires and ground.

See the big chunk missing? How does that happen?

Re: 84 reg cab in CO: 4-18 need new muffler

Went up Mt Herman Road Saturday; saw what used to be a full-size Blazer. Now it's 1/4 elliptical front and rear, Rockwells, Howe hydro and sitting on 49" Iroks. And it's got Collector Vehicle plates on it too...   71" of travel and I believe it!

Rode along with some Rock Forgs to Illinois Gulch yesterday, played on Moab Hill a bit. It was a pretty good time; weather was way better (snowed Saturday) and there were a bunch of well-built rigs there... I was the lone Toyota.

Pics and video to come; wait till you see that Blazer thing almost flop.

Next for my truck is a new muffler ( :shhh:) and RUF with better shackles since the Pro Comps are just not making me feel warm and fuzzy and I want to lower the front end a few inches too.
And I love my super flexy Chevy springs.

Blazer appears to be way off trail??  You said the Mt Herman area?  I don't believe there's anything on that trail that big unless you're off of it.

It was the first shooting area down 315, I always call it Mt Herman Road for no good reason... that big rock is about 100 feet from 315 on the north end of the shooting/camping area.

Not too far off the trail...  :shhh:

It was there; under the "Eagle Rock" thread. It gradually changed into the "Illinois Gulch" thread. You shoulda been there; I think I gave Toyotas a bad name with my 'bash it' driving style. Lord, I need to learn to drive... and the big BANG in the down video was my bed floor/bed box/chains; nothing suspension-related thankfully.

Oh... now I get it; I wondered what you meant by "fines, fines"... thought you were talking about going off the trail.

I do need some finesse and maybe duals. Muffler first; I'm going to run over it to see if that helps any before I go and stick another one on. It's just the baffles inside; one or three have come loose so if squishing it works... fine. I'm poor.

I corrected myself less than 2 minutes after posting lol. I should spell check myself more often. I got my muffler from napa, only $20 and it sounds alright for being cheap.

x2.  I might have paid a little bit more...but not much.  Mine usually sounds great.  It's just when it sounds like angry bees that I know I should shift...  but that's just about every 4 banger, right?

I need to get a cat though.  I heard that Larimer County is going to start smogging again sometime soon.  Also, it will help with that rich exhaust smell and the decel backfire thing.  I hope anyway...

But yeah running over the muffler sounds ingenious!  Haha...  added to my memory bank of cheap fixes.  Love those sorts of things.

I was going to get a bunch of 2.25 exhaust pipe but didn't... I got sidetracked replacing my alternator tonight. When I hit some bumps the battery and brake lights came on... and didn't go off. Turns out the alt was putting out a whopping 2 volts; suck.

Yeah, you know what happened? The main wire from the alternator got hot and halfway melted off since it was spliced before. Fixed that (with solder) after I already replaced the alternator and the dash lights (brake and battery) are still on. Now the alternator puts out about 16-18 volts at idle so I'm guessing the regulator is toast.

Running over the muffer worked like a charm... with help from my 5 pound dead-blow hammer; no more tin-can sound.

Got a new regulator; dash lights are still on. Charging system is otherwise normal, alternator is putting out +/-14.5 volts at idle again and the battery (blue top Optima) holds 12.7 or so when off.  :headscratch:

Guess I'll yank the bulbs to make the lights go out; it's worked before.

Onward! Since it's going to f'n SNOW tomorow into Saturday (in the higher elevations) the Eagle Rock trip may be canned so I want to wire in a CB, fix the battery/brake warning lights, check why the front markers aren't working, maybe screw with the door glass for a better seal, hack up the fenders and whatever else I can think of.

And get my sliders chromed.  :bling:

Got the alternator figured out; the spare was for a mechanical regulator and the stocker was for electric regulator. I guess that's the difference between the black and green plugs, learn something new every day. Since the stocker is almost toast (puts out 12.5 or so) I'm going to get hot on sticking a Saturn alternator in there. One from a 97 or 98 is really really close to a direct bolt-on; just have to screw with the wiring since it's internally regulated. Stock 22R alternator would be $60 and a Saturn is $75-$110 but it puts out 105 amps versus 50+/- stock. Might as well upgrade... I have some threads bookmarked for alternator swaps, now it's just a matter of finding the right thread.

Wired in the front spotlight (the second light died by wrench hit) and CB, need to find a better mounting spot than "floor+duct tape". Fixed the front markers; right side bulb was broken and left side's wiring was rubbed through/cut. Redid some of my earlier "band-aids"; feel bad for letting them go for so long. Luckily they were still in good shape and not burned/melted. Again, wiring isn't my strong suit... but it's getting better.

Dreaming of a 5VZE swap...

Went up Eagle Rock (again) and we were the first rig on the trail... but not for very far. There was some fresh snow that made things fun and slick so for safety's sake we turned around and came down. Got back on the road and ran into a bunch of Jeeps (some built, some stock-ish) and followed them up to see how far they'd get. They got pretty far but had to winch a decent amount and still turned around after a while. The front 2 rigs were locked, on Iroks and aired down but snow has the final say... and when there's ice under the snow, forget about it.
Anyhow, we messed around a few side trails just to see what else there is around the area. Found a few good flex spots and some hillclimbs that would be sweet without snow. Also with other people; going solo is limiting unless you just don't care about getting stuck or flopping.
Some videos:
Flex a bit:

Going up to Eagle Rock, take 75:

Coming down after getting stuck-ish:

See? Snow says, "You're not going anywhere, fella...":

The muffler came apart again so I really need to get another one. Also the alternator was trying but it just wasn't putting out the juice. I had to get recharged by a Jeep for a bit; time to upgrade to a hi-output from a Saturn.

Changed the muffler with another I had lying around, it's 2.5" so it's okay for now. Down the road I want to re-do the exhaust with 2.25 and a quieter muffler. The header makes enough noise by itself and I don't want to be "that loud truck" on the trail.  :shhh:
Haven't done much; it's been running pretty good even with a half-dead alternator and charging the battery an hour or two each day. Yay, Optima blue top! Also it was free so... yeah. Before the Jambo (coming SOOOON!!!!) I'd like to do:
exhaust
alternator
RUF/shackles
tires
OBA with that little ARB compressor
align passenger door
bed storage
CB install for good
paint
That's about it; not a bunch but enough that I won't get around to do something, plus I'll be in PA for most of June so there's a few weeks without progress.

Meh...
