1981 CJ-5 Help
« on: Jul 15, 2009, 11:30:31 AM »
My friends CJ is having to issues that I don't quite understand. Carbed inline 6 backed by a 5 speed with granny low caped with a Dana 300 on stock axles and 33's. It keeps breaking engine AND trans mounts. Not just tearing them, it looks to be shearing them or twisting them apart.  :dunno: .

that is kinda wierd, unless it is some huge torque monster or they drop the clutch all the time and torque load it a crazy amount.... what about possibly upgrading mounts? then would breaking the frame be an issue?

Frame breaking: Don't think so. But I would like to fix the issue before just beefing the hell out of it.

Hu..... Does he pop the clutch alot in sticky places? thats interesting. You could always chain them up? Kinda ghetto but it works.

Ive broken a few when I had stock drivetrain and 33's. But it was because I would pop the clutch on steep hills or tight spots.

I was driving. No popping of the clutch. We did chain the driver-side mount and put a torque bar on the trans mount. Then the passenger mount tore. It was twisting towards the rear. I think the clutch is chattering very slightly.
