new shoes

Vote and post what you think. Am going to run 31''. 30''. 235s.. Any feedback would be great. I have 31x10.50 baja claw radials and just tired of them. not much of a snow/ice tire.

am thinking of going towards goodyear tires.  I know most of people here voted for the km2s I just cant justify them.

last time i went wheeling at lizard head a guy with goodyear all terrains went further than me and did much better and didn't get stuck as bad as i did with the baja claw radials . and that makes goodyear a better choice for me.

thanks for voting. it will either be the goodyear duratracs which i didnt put in the poll or the new mtrs.

nevermind that. lol. I dont know what tires to get still. I went to three shops today. and am starting to like the general grabbers at2s alot unless i can get the mtr2s/duratrac for a good price am starting to look at more different brands.

i also read the ssm16s work great, but the 31s havent come out yet. any other ideas or post pics of what you like and why.

Didn't see them listed, but have you considered BFG AT KO's?  They wok well enough in all conditions, and when aired down work very well in the snow, i.e, more flotation than digging.

what about the new buckshot xmts? ya i probably need more flotation this time and less digging. which is why i liked the grabber at2s. am waiting to hear back on the goodyear tires though too.

If you are going to go w/an mT tread, you should consider running 32x11.50's.  You will get a little more sidewall flex and a larger footprint for better flotation when wheeling in the snow.  You should be able to clear the 32's with a little body seam modification, or an additional leaf spring below the main leaf front and rear.  Used set of springs and some new center pins should run you about $40.  Your u-bolts should be fine for one additional leaf/pack.

i thought about that actually. 32s might be better. i just dont know if i can fit them on my wheels. i guess they would since the 31x10.50 fit.
I bet i could fit them without any mods. we'll see what i decide to do. good idea!

Are you shopping online, or through a tire store?

If inline I would stick w/a well known tread wearing tire.  BFG's don't come w/a tread life warranty, but when rotated often, IME, you can get about 50k out of the MT's, and about 80 out of the AT's.

i have came to a conclusion lol. at what psi do you drop tire pressure for mud, snow, etc? am thinking 15 psi so i can make back to the gas station to fill them back up, its 50-100 miles sometimes to get where am wheeling though lol
i guess thats why i never aired down but thats lame i guess. i need to try it,

hence why the bajaclaw radials dont work on hard snow/float/any snow i guess
i never been stuck in snow, but just hard snow thats like ice--which is why am going to keep my tires now and save my money to get new tires in the future when these are done.

For fire roads I run my BFG AT's at 12-15psi, about 12 in the rocks, and as low as 2-3psi in the snow.  I run my 35 Xterrains at about 8-10 psi for the fire roads and rocks, and as low as 2-3 psi in the snow.  With snow wheeling a lot depends on the condition of the snow, I usually start off with about 8-10psi and adjust the pressure as needed.

It doesn't take much to have an air source on the trail, you can get a 5 gallon tank and an MV-50 12volt compressor for about $70, or make your own CO@ set-up for under $150.  Other people convert their A/C compressor to OBA system, or attach a york compressor either in the old A/C location or run both if they have to have A/C as well.  I used CO2 in the past, but once I went to running air-lockers I fab'd up my own OBA system.  Having OBA on the trail is usually a necessity either for airing up your tires to head home, re-seating a blown bead, or blowing up an air mattress or inner tube for the lake.

Lowering air pressures is one the easiest ways of increasing traction off road, not to mention softening the ride.  At 12-15psi wash board fire roads become almost as smooth as the highway.

I originally bought the first one at Kragen's, but they stopped carrying them.  Once they got popular the prices went up from $45 to over $70.  The last one I bough I got it online for $50 plus shipping.  The full name is Superflow MV-50.  A google search should get you some online prices.

The Viair is a good brand but expensive.  If you go w/a Viair make sure to get one that has a 100% duty cycle.  The  MV-50's are cheap enough that when you burn them up from over use, you can buy another.
