Upgrade Axle shafts????
« on: Jul 02, 2009, 12:02:14 AM »
So here's my deal...I'm putting a lockrite in my front axle very soon so my Toyota will be locked up front and rear and I'm wondering if I need to upgrade my axle shafts? I'm only running 35x14.50 TSL'S with 3" wheel spacers all around.....is this gonna cause my Birffields to break? I really haven't done any rock crawling I'm more into snow than anything and I figured I ask before I put everything back together.... :driving:

its up to you really. if your just snow wheelin you might not have to go all out and get longfields, maybe get just marfields (marlins cromo birfield, 27 spline, no inners)
thats what i would do

I've beat on my marfields pretty good and they have held up. 37s dual cases and an ARB

If your break one of your stock birf there is a good chance you will damage that locker. I would recommend putting a limited slip in if you don't want to have to upgrade your axles.

How did upgrading to a birf eliminator kit help you with the locker you blew up with stock birfs?  :headscratch:

Oregon wheeler: I think with 35's in snow you should be ok with your stock birfs. they tend to go when you hammer down with the wheel cut hard. tune your driving to suit. IF  you blow up a stock birf, then i would say consider either a set of longfields or marlins cromo birfs. There not terribly hard to change using the camo method. <-- Search and thall shall find.
