Carbon Fiber Dash
« on: Jun 25, 2009, 10:30:12 PM »
I picked up an uncracked dash and it split about a year later. I was challenged to make one out of Carbon. Way too much work, but it's done.

nice work  its a early dash right?   did you just overlay it or did you make a mold gel coat carbon epoxy etc.

It's not an overlay. 100% cf. I took an almost perfect dash and made it as accurate as possible and made the molds off of that.

It's actually a performance upgrade. You need to keep the weight as low as possible.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing to my dash but fiberglass instead of carbon...  But my dash is practically perfect  so i'll probably just leave it alone.

looks good though  good job....

Now that you have a waiting list when does production start and what should we expect to pay? :)

I know nothing about the carbon fiber, except that the kid down the street has replaced almost everything on his Honda with it.  How much would something like this cost? I'm talking about just buying it from a Mfg. not a one off like yours.  $200-$400 or $500 + ?

*Note at this time there is nobody making these. It "isn't profitable" within a production setting thus why I believe he's sunk so much into this project to give you all access to it. It isn't a "One Off" idea. If it was I don't think he would've bothered to put so much effort into it including casting a mold.

I know that no one makes them, I was under the impression that he was "challenged" to make "one" thinking it was for his truck.  The Pirate link would not work for me but does now, so I see that he will sell them in the future.  So being limited production I would imagine he needs a nice profit, who could blame him, just debating the factory price $430 vs. what this might be.

I've seen his work personally. He is good, very good. You can see his build on the "other" site. It's called Greentruck. It's purdy and does very well on the trail. Hey greentruck, have you put a/c in that thing yet? Mines ICE cold. Tan 83 from the back door at KOH.
DD, 22R, L52HD, 35"s, All pro/Marlin Hysteer, 529's, Aussie Locker in rear only. 5" All Pro springs and 5" shackles. Just purpose built and dependable. A/C blows like ice too... www.4x4HIM.org
