New 4.70:1 Total Spline Input Gear!
« on: May 17, 2002, 08:55:57 PM »
(http://www.marlincrawler.com/gearsets.html)

Marlin Crawler has just released the long anticipated Total Spline™ 4.70:1 Heavy Duty Input Gear now found standard in all new 4.70:1 Marlin Crawler Gear Sets.

Shown on the left is our Updated New Input Gear 4.70:1(TS™) [without bearing] and on the right is a stock factory input gear. The arrow points to the narrow bottle neck on all Toyota gears that is the main weaklink of all 21-spline gear driven transfercases. The new TS™ Input design not only lacks the weak bottleneck, but it's continuous splines seal the bridge creating the strongest 21-spline and 23-spline Toyota gear drive input gears on the planet.

But as gear reductions and power options have increased, so has a second input problem: spline contact area. All to often dualcase adapters have suffered from faulty couplers where the input gear is spun with such great torque that it actually strips out the inner splines of the Advanced Adapter billet coupler and strips the input gear rendering it unusable. Specifically designed for this purpose, the new TS™ 4.70:1 Input Gear eliminates this never before resolved problem.

Input Type : Input Spline Length : % of coupler spline contact
4.00:1 Input Gear : 0.815" : 65% contact
Other vendor's 4.70:1 Input Gear : 0.830" : 67% contact
Stock 2.28:1 Input Gear : 0.875" : 70% contact
Stock 2.28:1 Turbo Input Gear : 1.075" : 87% contact
New 4.70:1(TS™) Input Gear : 1.300" : 100% contact

New 4.70:1(TS™)'s % of coupler's spline contact
Other vendors 4.70:1 % of coupler's spline contact
Stripped Dualcase Couplers: A thing of the past when equipped with our new gears.
All New Gear Orders shipped on or after May 14th, 2002, will feature the New Updated 4.70:1(TS™) Input Gear at no addition cost.

hey bigmike,
the website says all orders after may 14th will have this better input free of charge...does that mean all orders placed after may 14th or all orders shipped after may 14th...just curious

Yeah I thought this question might be asked, so I left it ambigious by writing that "All Orders" on or after, not All Placed Orders...blah blah

So I thought I would confuse someone, but it needs to be written the way it is  ;)

Any Gear Set that leaves the shop on or after the 14th will have the new TS™ Input, even if you ordered your gears in the land before time and are still waiting for them.

Just courious, hey Ron, what's our oldest order right now? Maybe one month? The majory of them are less than a month old. They are old because we were waiting for the new design to come out.

Edit: I have since updated the page to say "All Orders shipped on blah blah blah". Sounds better I think, 'shipped on or after'-  8)

BigMike

You know what I'm saying.

We've had your gears in stock for some time now, your not waiting on them. We have really shortened our turnaround time when we have our suppliers stocking us.  8)
Futhuremore, you should be glad that you'll be getting these new inputs now, eh?

that is very cool. When I had you guys put in the 23 spline shafts the stock gears were not only short like you show but they splines were "blocked" so it would not slide into the adapter. Me being the idiot I though the mainshaft from the tranny was bottomin so I CUT it (OOOOPS). Live n Learn..

Still bottomed so I realized it was the splines so I took a cut off wheel to my $250 gear :( (This is right after cutting my $500 adapter shaft)

Oh well it works. If I ever go 4.7 I definately want those!
