The pavement pounder on tons
« on: Jun 15, 2009, 11:15:27 PM »
Well I sold my 94 truck and bought a 97 runner 2wd with a 3rz 4cyl.

Plans are to sas it with a toyota mini truck axle, dual gear drive cases, locked front and rear and body protection for starters. I want this to be a good daily driver/wheeler.

you could source a W56B instead so you wont need the adaptor to the cases.

this sounds like a sweet build :D

I was under the impression that there would be an issue with the "speed sensor" ?  not to sure yet havent looked into that issue verry much yet.

would there be an issue with the tranny or will it be fine? I think that would be cheaper to go the route of the w56 for sure

this speed sensor that I keep hearing about. Is it just for the speedo? Or dose it affect the way the motor runs at all?

I didnt have time today to call. dose anyone know for sure if the speed sensor will be a problem if I run a w56? it should be the same either way I would think.

thanks

Sweet deal!    It's about time you got that thing back on the road.

I still need a few things before I can start chopping on mine,  soon though.

if your going to use gear driven cases that were used with a mechanical speedo sensor you will need this

it converts the mechanical speedo that was origially in the gear driven cases into a 4 pulse 3 wire electrical signal that was used in the newer trucks/runners. it will plug right into your harness

you can buy that adapter right here. if your speedometer you are using is a cable one you wont need this adapter. If it is electric (almost positive it is) you will need to buy this adapter

It's still all stock!! Trying to get all I need for the transformation first, and I been working crazy hours.

On a side note, I just picked up a set of 36" tsl's on beadlocks for the project. Will post pics soon (posting from phone).

I'm still gathering all the stuff I need first, its taking a little longer than I thought but it will come

this is the day I got it home, it was in a small rear end accident (thats where some of my funds went) so I bought a new hatch for it and I'm gonna make a new rear bumper for it.

these are the rims and tires i got for it. I LIKE EM!!
