Any pics of this 1st gen from the side?  I'm curious to see a better shot of how he cut the fenders.

nice thing about not being locked up front, is if you break a short side shaft, its not too hard to pop the other one out, and use a screwdriver and hammer to tap it out, through the diff.

Never had a problem with IFS in the past.  The *real* issue was always grinding and rubbing parts due to the lack of travel and lack of lift.  Usually expensive parts that didn't like a rock jammed in their face...

Just got home..  what a awsome trip..  went in from tahoe thursday morning..  Camped at the springs that night, Wheeled up to buck and spent last night..  then wheeled out this morning....

Back to the IFS,  I am super happy with the way it performed while on the trail other than dragging it everywhere.. And for being open in the front I did awsome..  I winched on the big sluice to try to keep my body out of the big rock squeeze about half way up.. And winched one more time at the very top of the big sluice since I was hung up on my gas tank..  My 2 buddies (12voltguy, and a local buddy) were way better setup rig wise and I led the whole way except for a little while today leaving  spider

Now for the conclusion..  as much fun as it was and all the comments on how surprised people were to see a IFS rig on 33's doing so well I am still cutting out the IFS soon..  I did not break one thing..  Not one time did I work on my runner while on the trail..  But after I got out to loon and up on the road it was for sure I bet some thing in the steering..  It looks like I bent the idler Arm a little and the relay rod a tiny bit..  I replaced the idler arm right there and adjusted my toe for the 3 hr drive home.. It also looks like the IFS is set back a smidge..  it is a trail master IFS lift and it seems like while looking at the A Arms from the side and the drop bracket they seem pushed back a little

So all in all the IFS got me through..  And it was a TON of fun wheeling it and getting all the looks  but it won't work for my long term needs.. I will post pics later tonight or tomorrow :beerchug:

Do you think the bent idler and the parts moving was due to the IFS lift?

No,  It is a real IFS lift, not balljoint spacers or any of that crap..  the steering is flat just like the lower A arms..you can compare the steering to a stock rig and it looks identical with this set up. the way the arms are on the lift it keep the steering normal

^^Not to much of a surprise, you know what you have been able to do w/an SA, and going back to IFS long term would be kind of hard to do.  At least you were willing to see what you could do w/it, before putting it under the plasma.

I was able to get through ok..  But others had said I hated dragging it over everything..  and the fact I know it would be a constant sorce of adjustment(alinement) it just is not worth it..  If the runner would be driven everyday on the road I would be much more inclined to keep it.. Cutting it out tomorrow
