diff question?????
« on: Oct 11, 2004, 05:36:58 PM »
allright here it is i have an 85 4-runner 22re w56 and 4.30 gears with 31.10;50's the diffs have 312,000 miles on them and still function beautifuly anyways i was rumaging through a junk yard and found a 1998 yota pickup it has 4.30 gears and a locker a wasnt to keen on the gear ratio but the locker caught my attention is the guy said he wanted 500 bucks for the complete setup would it be a good idea to go this route? is it a simple bolt up deal or is there fabrication involved. im also considering a lift. its a daily driver so i dont want to get to wild with it it needs to be road worthy. anyways any suggestions? or thoughts i wont to Know everyones thoughts. :driving:

I think the only thing that needs to be done is to change flanges?  I don't really know about how the locker works (wiring?)  Othere then that i believe the springs should fit and then just what about the shock mounts.  Might be able to use your stock u-bolts and spring plate.  then brake lines should fit i would think.

well don't forget that there woild be coils in the rear and you would need to cut off the coil spring base thing and then weld on a leaf spring pearch.

If you just pick up the 3rd member, it's a little more involved then just bolting it up.  There's a little welding and drilling that needs to be done to the housing to get the 3rd member to bolt up.

Here's a writeup: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/electric_locker/

Well, if the ideal of excluding the lesser equipped (stock or otherwise) is accepted... there is no fundamental difference between that and a Sierra CLub ideal of exclusion. If we cannot embrace the 4wheel users as a whole. We are not fighting for access. I cannot be that shortsighted

GET IT! $500 for the whole unit is a good deal, see if you can score the wiring harness too if the truck is being parted out.

well in that case you don't really need 4.88's untill you get a larger tire
