Author Topic: Aussie locker or Lock-Rite? (Read 3913 times)

What is the difference between an Aussie and a Lock-rite? I looked at Aussie on-line and looks extremely like the Lock-Rite I been running for years. I am planning big project redoing front axle to Hy-Steer and lock front while disassembled. I would appreciate everone's opinion to help me decide before I order all the parts. Thanks

according to a lot of reviews ive seen on various forums the aussie is stronger and smoother, i have a lockright and it has cost me a ring and pinion due to a sheered off pin, the next locker i buy will be an aussie

lockright is made to break once it reaches a certain angle if i remember correctly...aussie does not

i personly have an aussie in back and v6 detroit tru-trac up front due to mine being dd/weekend warrior

i have an aussie up front with a ez rear. aussie works awsome. wish i had one in the rear.

I put a Aussie in the rear of my 4runner a few weeks ago DD and it has worked well . IT is a little noisey in the corners click click click But it dose not load and unload like my Detroit did . I ran a Lock rite in the front of my old truck and it is very simular to the aussie . But the aussie seams to be made just a little better

Basically the guy that helped develop the lockrite went on to form Aussie locker, which is a slightly different but better and stronger design. I would take the Aussie over the Lockrite for sure.

id go selectable for the front

i dont think it is that necessary to run selectable in the front as long as you have twin sticks. I wouldnt go with an aussie or a lock right though Detroit all the way.

your truck should steer the same with a lock right, Aussie or a detroit and it will be crappy your truck wont want to turn but it is better that a welded front end. The Detroit is a lot stronger and more reliable than those lunchbox lockers though. The best way to go is a selectable locker toy e locker but they are spendy, a detroit would be fine as long as you have a twin sticked tcase that way you can take your truck out of 4wd so you can steer.

keep in mind that if you run a full detroit up front and you break a birf, you take a pretty good chance of blowing the detroit apart or breaking it too.

Ive heard this before but am not sure why. why does the detroit break if you break a birf?

the axles have a load on them and when they break, they unload and basically want to turn the opposite way really fast, and being that one end of the axle is in the locker, twist the locker back the opposite direction, causing it to break. not sure if i worded that right, but it breaks when the axle unloads

i probalby should have just run one up the front and ran some spacers for the v6..wold of saved me a couple bones over the v6 detroit tru-trac

I've been running aussies F&R for 2 years now, (1 of those years on 39.5" Iroks) with no issues. Love my aussies for sure!
