Hello everyone. I am new to this site but was told that if I ever needed to get good tips regarding Toyota trucks, this was the place. Here is my situation:
I just had the head redone and replaced the timingchain, tensioner, guides, and sprockets. Put everything back together and put crank on tdc. Started the engine. The engine stays running only when I keep the pedal off idle. Truck won't stay idling long enough for me to adjust the timing accuratley. All vacuums lines have been routed correctly.
Any suggestions as to what might be causing this would be greatly appreciated.

So the truck will stall/die when you put the gas to it? Sounds like the timing's way off still; it might be a long shot but double check timing and where the rotor points on the dizzy... this has bitten me in the butt more than once.

Can you have someone keep the truck running while you check/adjust the timing?

I wouldn't mess with the airflow screw, those settings are made from the factory and you shouldn't ever have to mess with them unless there is some other kind of issue. Maybe one of your vacuum lines were damaged when you pulled them off or re installed them or maybe you miss one of your electrical connections. I have had this same issue. Take a long close look which I'm sure you already have to make sure that every connector is hooked up and that you didn't in some way damage one of your vacuum lines. After that if you get your timing anywhere near on the truck should run.

There is a connector that goes to a black box on the bottom side of the intake. I have in past forgotten to connect that and had the same kind of issues. I wonder if what you are dealing with is the same issue. It must have taken me half a day to figure it out. Good luck. Let me know if any of this helps.
