dual battery setup
« on: Mar 01, 2009, 07:39:44 PM »
i have a 79 Toyota pickup. over the years i have added more lights, bigger stereo with an amp. on board air system, CB and ham radios. i have noticed that I'm starting to draw a lot of amps when i have any number of my accessories on. i have replace the alternator and the voltage regulator, but haven't Reilly up graded the charging system. i am now at the point where a second battery would help a lot i think with my draw problem. what are some setups that others are running and what up grades have you done to your charging system. how are some of your dual batteries hooked up, such as to a switch or a relay or something. any input would help.

you need a big alt. more batts. will not stop you drawing more than your making. there nice if your stopped with the eng. off and want to run stuff. you can run the stuff off one , run it down and still start.
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

1 wire gm alt
a little tricky to get to bolt up- you will have to make brackets
but real easy to wire- 1 wire

you can also buy the high output ones

yes, cause people use them for big stereos and winches etc,I had 2 batteries and my wimpy alt.wouldnt charge both of them up,my friend has a tool box in his bed with 2 batteries and the isolator.. then he can run them down and still start his rig with his regular battery under the hood,I think 100 amp alternators are available

The only question I have is how do you go from a externally regulated alt to an internal regulated alt. (I know...remove the ext. regulator...duh!), but as much as I've researched this, I have not seen any description of what needs to be done to get rid of it.
