ford f150 tank/ other options?
« on: Feb 09, 2009, 05:12:13 PM »
before i get flamed for not searching i did, and went thru a bunch of link and such but still have a few questions.

what year tank works with a carbed engine? all the info i have found it for a 87-91 f150 tank with the pump in it. but those truck are fuel injected and would be pumping 30 some odd psi into my carb.

so what low profile tanks do you guys use for carbed truck, NOT EFI!

thanks
-W.F.

is an 85 runner frame with an 84 extended cab body on it. no bed, flatbed to come. currently has the 84 carbed tank in the stock location but it is hitting the body and wont bolt up 100%. also has a few pinholes from rust.

read:

I DONT WANT TO WASTE MY TIME WITH A RUSTED OUT YOTA TANK THAT HANGS DOWN HALF A FOOT UNDER THE FRAME RAIL.

i want a high clearance tank that will fit nicely under my flatbed. i have done/am doing enough custom work to this truck that i dont want to just skip over this.

DID READ

84 carbed tank in the stock location but it is hitting the body and wont bolt up 100%. also has a few pinholes from rust.

And saw it hits the body (see I can and do read)

If you want some one to say I knwo just what you need it will have to be some one with a 85 runner frame with a 84 ex-cab body on it.

or you could post up some pics so the fools on here could maybe give some input as to the best way to go forward.

He had this tank in his 86 runner before he put it in his 97 runner.

He's wondering what to do because he's got a carb and not EFI like most ford tank swaps show.

I've also wondered the same thing but decided I was going to try to modify the stock toy sender to fit the ford tank when I got to that project.  :dunno:

was it a swap into a carbed truck? like wflaw45, i've found a few of them into EFI rigs, but not so much for a 22r.

Anything from 87 and up ford will be fuel injected. So try a 85-86 ford f150 with a 5.8l since they were carbed. Most the 5.0l equipped truck from 86 i have seen have been fuel injected so try to get a tank from either a 6 cylinder equipped f150 or a 5.8l f150. Take a look on lmc's website for a tank of that year and model. It should be a 19 gallon steel aft rear axle tank.

I looked on lmc truck and it looks like the tank are the same between the fuel injected and carbed models. It just the sending unit that is different. So get a tank from 1980-96 f150 and a sending unit from like 84-86 f150 and then maybe a inline fuel pump and you should be good to go. I have the ford tank in my truck and it fits great. When you get a tank buy the upper and lower straps too.
