Its an expensive step for just cool factor.  :smokin:

True......But I also enjoy tinkering on the truck....the main reason I have it..working out in the cave is my escape from reality..

Finally got the truck back together....Ended up putting a W56 trans in it...
Here is the skidplate I built.

Installed..

I shortened the rear drive shafts ( I have a spare) my self.. Seems to be working pretty good..I can run 75mph down the highway (flat ground) with no viberations (except the Gumbos)....

Early B-day present....Love Craigslist, $950, damn near brand new 12.5x36 Swampers..

Compare to the Gumbos...

I prefer a skinnier tire, less strain on the bearings & such...

I had issues with the winch draining the battery at an idle....So I yotarigged a high idle switch....

A switch off a HEEP...I know, I know.....But they are good for somethings..........lol

I used some kind of hold down bracket off Lord knows what, but it worked perfect...

There was nothing on the Weber or the linkage for the switch to hit, so I welded a washer to an extra linkaged I had..Figured if I fudged it up, I still had a good linkage..

The modified linkage is on the left....

On the truck.....It holds the idle @ 2100 rpms..

Opinions?

SUMMER is coming (someday)...Time to take the doors OFF. So I had to figure something out for the speakers in the door....So I made some speaker boxes (cans) for the front speakers...Yes I know, my mind is warped....

The cans cut down..

Mounted to the kick panel...

And the speaker installed...

It will be a few days or weeks...Depending on work and getting the carb rebuilt...It is the WORST I have ever seen...full of rust & mud dobbers... I bought the kit, but have to get the diaphragm for the vaccum secondaries...And I need to get a breather and choke..Then I have to figure out how to redo my snorkel box.

Tried 3 different O-rings, even made a paper gasket.....When I say it SLINGS oil, I mean it covers the WHOLE drivers side of the engine bay....

Well as I was getting ready for work today, the big brown truck pulled up..YIPPPPEEEE, I thought, my distributor is here..NOT..

The UPS lady said "It shows that it is supposed to be here"..I asked, then where is it???
She said it must have been put on a different truck and "should be here tomorrow"

 UUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH.

Well good news and bad.... Good news distributor made it home and the truck fired up.
It idles a little high but I can work that out.

Bad news, I wasn't thinking and FAILED to replace the gasket on the bottom of the intake.....And guess what.........................IT LEAKS...

Got it all back together, just waiting for the filter box. I have a friend of mine that used to race 4cylinder stock cars, he is going to help get everything in sync...It runs, but I can't get it to idle down and it starts to sputter at about 5 grand. Any ideas??

The air box came today....It won't fit under the hood (didn't think it would), the plan is to recess it into the fender in place of the tube on the snorkel....

While waiting for the jets and power valve block off, I started on the snorkel/ airbox.

I forgot to take a pic of the hole when it was finished.. I put door edge guard around it for a more finished look.
When everything is done the box will only stick out about 3/4 of an inch further than the snorkel did.
Hopefully I can get everything back together this weekend (Monday & Tuesday)

Snorkel is done

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got the carb back on today and finished up the snorkel... I still have to adjust the carb.. I dropped the jets from .73 to .40 so hopefully it will quit loading up.

I am also having an issue with oil blowing out the vent tube when I get it over 5000rpms... Any ideas??? I have 70-85 psi oil pressure in the 4-5000rpm range.

 The snorkel set up:

Opinions welcomed..
