high idle with screw all the way in?
« on: Jan 11, 2009, 12:41:57 PM »
My "86 22re idle's @ 1200 RPM, with the idle screw turned all the way in. i ran the screw way out, then all the way back in, but its still soo high. i'm not sure what effect this would have on setting my timing, but i obvioulsy cannot set it the way my manual says to. besides the fact that my truck idleing soo high is annoying and can't be good.  :help:

And include checking the egr system for vacuum leaks (the part that actually routes the exhaust gasses from the rear of the head to the rear of the intake). As can be found in many other threads, this is a common problem.
It ain't worth doin' if you don't have to clean up afterwards!

Build it, break it, fix it, repeat until your wallet is empty.

Sounds like the air valve is broken..............

(under the throttle valve; 2 air hoses and 2 coolant hoses attached to it, and a 2 wire electrical connector)

Has an internal air valve controlled by an bimetallic strip;   As the engine warms up, it closes the valve.     If the electrical connection goes bad (can be internal or external) it pretty much quits working.

It's very pricey.   You can tweak it close, or plug up the hoses, but you need to raise your warm rpm (about 1000) so that engine will still run when cold..........

i misted every vac line w/ carb cleaner, wasn't sure if that would do it, so tried either, didn't change my results: nothing. air valve huh? i'm kinda mechanically retarded so i don't know what that is, but your discription helps emsvitil. thanks, i'll hit back and let you guys know if that worked. thanks!
