Best year EFI Donor truck?
« on: Dec 15, 2008, 01:07:06 AM »
What do you guys think the best years of donor trucks (85-88 or 89-94) is the simplest for the EFI Swap in an 81 22r.  I am talking specifically wiring not motor.

85 to 87 fewer smog hook ups. I've go an 88 efi engine I'm collecting parts to swap into a 79 and the ecm looks like it has a few more wires. a little bit more to do with the o2 sensor and 88 also started using an egr temp sensor. I've got some 89 stuff too and the 89 really went nuts with the extra smog junk.

I have an 87 and it doesn't have water injection, a 2nd 02 sensor(just one) and none of the other BS(nothing but plates which go nowhere and can actually be ignored entirely or welded shut if they're leaking).  Just two cutouts for the EGR system and a single O2 sensor.

Very simple and easy to deal with.  I suspect that the 86 is virtually the same.

o2 doesnnt stand for h20, its to measure the air fuel ratio in the exhaust

I'd never waste my time with a second gen (85-89) setup beings the wiring is in one big cluster flunk with the underhood/body harness.  Use any year of 3rd gen and make it easy, there are 4 main harnesses on them, underhood, engine, dash and tail.  Makes life super easy.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

1986 of course.  They are all, in fact, easy to wire .
