No, No, No :_order: :_order: :_order:

The 4.37 ratio was only offered for 2 years in the 79-80 20 R, L43 4 speed trucks. It was needed to lower the crawl ratio because the L43 trans [a carry over from a 2wd truck] had a 3.67 first gear ratio that was never intended for a 4x4 truck. This is the highest first gear of all pick up transmissions.

Sorry, FJ 40's and 60's only got 3.70, 4.10 ratios.

hey marlin, wasn't 4.375 available for a couple of years in 2wd trucks?  i'd like to say '75-76.  most 4 speed 2wds i've ever seen have had the 8" regardless of if they were 1 ton or not

They 2wd's only come in 7.5 rear ends they look just like an 8 inch but have smaller gears and i think 1 tons have 8 inchers but not shure. does anyone know if an 8 inch 4x4 diff will fit in a 7.5 2wd houseing?
I have some 4.10 high pinion diffs for sale if your looking for some, want 400.00 a peace have 2.
Pm me if u want them or want too see pics.

:biggthumpup:thanks for the info marlin   one last question
are the fj40 diffs stronger than the 60s  i was told that the 60s pinion has a hole drilled through the middle of it and tend to break in a hard bind,  but the rig that its
going in is a samurai  with stock motor and 4.9 case gears so there probaly nothing to worry about with the 60s.  what do you think?

Kyle, I have only seen 3.90 and 4.10's in the early trucks with 8" diffs. Not sure about the 7.5's.
All early diffs 78 and older had 10 spline pinions that were prone to failure :_oops:

All 79 and newer Land Cruisers use the same gear sets, and have a fine spline pinion that uses the same flange spline as the 8" mini trucks.
I have never seen a FJ60 pinion that has a hole in it.

The Cruiser diffs would be great overkill under a Samurai

nope, LOTS of 2wds have 8" axles.  most of the 7.5s i've seen have been on 5 speed trucks.  my '84 4 speed shortbed had an 8" rear with 3.08 gears.

the 8" wont fit in a 7.5 housing though, and the 7.5 uses 27 spline shafts instead of 30 spliners like the 8"

Yes kyle_22r,

According to my July of 85 Toyota fisch, 8/74 thur 8/76 RN 23 [s/bed 20R 5 speeds] and RN28 [ l/bed 20R 5 speeds] got the 4.375 ring and pinions.

All autos and 5 speeds shared the same 4.11 gears as well.
