btw, should i bother buying longs if i'm staying open in the front...seems like the most reasons the stockers break are if you give it full throttle at or near or full lock..

Yes ... I broke 1 stock birfield while open in the front. once i put the locker in i broke them more
frequently until i put the longs in..........

and I'm not hard on the throttle. more of a finesse driver

If you don't have the money now just carry spares and tools.
all i want is a little more than i'll ever get!!

Nice, you wont get the numbers as with a CPI, or TPI.  But great nonetheless.  I have a 4.3 TBI/700R4 in my 1991 S-10, and its a great truck.  What year motor and what tranny ?   I have decent pictures of the Downey TBI/TPI swap manual, if you want them.  They are easily read when zoomed.

he said it was a 93 thinking transmissions is 2wd though as its still connected to the engine and seen no transfer case
so looks like i'm going to need to change the output shaft out for a 4wd one
and have a lead on a transfer case for 75$
and the swap manual would be nice, if it isnt a bother..

When you get the adapter, it will come with an output shaft to be installed into your Tranny.  Is the tranny a 700R4 or 4l60 cause that was the transition year.  Is there 6 bolts holding the tailhousing or 4 bolts ?  If there are 6 you might need an extra adapter plate, check with AA.  Also when looking for the AA adapter, check other distributors,  cause they might be cheaper.  I got my AA adapter from Inchworm for 100 less then AA, and it was drop shipped from AA.

Sent a PM. Check S10planet.com  those guys are real helpful.  If its TBI then if its 92, 93,94 it doesn't matter.  If its 4 bolts on the tailhousing, I bet its a 700R4.  Hell if its 88+ your good as far as TBI motors and 700s go.

I am using stock manifolds and Y pipe, and my motor is as high as I can still get it under the hood.  Of course yours is TBI, so the top is different.    Yes the smog referee will check everything,  I went to Santa Clara, and it happens to be on a campus of Wyotech students, so I got 1 referee and two students all over the truck.  All I can say is make sure your VSS works and has an EO (EO=executive order required by the BAR) number.  Don't go by the Downey manual for VSS, cause wiring your VSS into the Toyota's is un-exceptable.  If your gonna get an aftermarket VSS then go JTR, cause they have the only one with an EO number, and they plug rite into your speedo port in the T-Case.  Remember they require a long lead time.

I don't know all the angles, but I did my research.  I have to thank Crash on the pirate site, for some stuff.  Mostly its research, and learning from other swaps, I have done.  Feel free to ask anything, and I will do my best to help.

if you mean the stock toyota 5 speed, then yes you can do it.  you have to get an adaptor that replaces your toyota bellhousing, then you can bolt it up to the 4.3

I kept the toyota tranny in mine. I got my adapter from Northwest off road. There a little on the spendy side, but well made and worth it if you didnt want to go auto. Yes, there is all kinds of options. www.northwestoffroad.com
