This past weekend numerous volunteers from several local clubs got together and installed a pit toilet at Thompson Lake on the Dusy Ershim OHV Trail. The following clubs were represented:
Four Wheel Drive Club of Fresno.
Clovis Independents 4 wheelers.
Lock and Low Four Wheel Drive Club of Visalia.
4X4HIM Christian Wheelers.
On Friday 10-24-08 after work we loaded up the Toilet which was built by the Four Wheel Drive Club of Fresno last year and then put into storage until we were givin the OK by the Forest Service where & when to install it. We were able to make to Dusy Creek where we camped on Friday night.
Saturday, we broke camp and got on the trail to haul all the equipment & pieces up Thompson Hill. Several rigs got a jump start up the hill before the loaded trailers so they could start on digging the hole.
By the time all reached the site the hole was approximately ¾ done. It was decided to save some time to erect the toilet next to the dig site then with winches drag it over the hole then level it out. Good decision as we were able to get the walls & toilet in place by dark.
Sunday, the roof was installed and the toilet was finished by late morning. We all broke up and headed back down the hill in small groups.
