2RZ - price and compatability?
« on: Sep 18, 2008, 12:38:18 PM »
I've been contemplating off and on swapping my 22RE for something newer this spring, and the 2RZ looks to be a good 22RE replacement.  The question, though, is how much does one cost, and how hard would it be to replace/install and mate up to the MC W56 in my 87 4Runner?

The 1RZ is the engine they put in the 2WD Tacoma.  It appears to be identical to the 2RZ other than having 10 less HP.  But it gets much better highway MPG, and I'm sure I won't be able to tell the difference.(140HP vs 150HP - both are still way above my old 22RE in power)

I double checked again.  Evidently the 1rz was Europe and Asia only.  So it's the 2RZ I'm asking about, then. :)

And yes, the 3rz does appaear to now come standard, but some 2wds  - the late 90s little "Taco" trucks came with the 2rz.

take a look at the 3rz data thread on the engine/suspension side. it's about the same engine. same bore, shorter stroke on the 2rz. i like the 3rz better but you can find the 2rz cheaper. once you mod it for a 2rz, you can bolt a 3rz in at your leasure. i think you can even use the 2rz computer on the 3rz.

it's pretty strait forward youll need to get the bell housing off the w59 trans and it'll bolt right on to your w56 get the shift fork and slave also
