Tacoma rear axle 5.29's locker
« on: Sep 07, 2008, 07:30:13 PM »
Im swapping to tons and don't need this anymore. The axle is out of my 97 and has Yukon 5.29's and a Powertrax No-Slip locker. The diff has approximatly 8k miles on it and is in good shape. Shock tabs and a traction bar mount are on the axle, but could easily be removed if desired. I'm looking for $500 OBO.

What is the possibility that this will fit directly under an 84? Do you know if spring widths and driveshaft bolt patterns are the same? And do you have any pics? Thanks.  I'm in Atlanta.

I threw one of these axles under my 86. You have to move your hard brakeline around (very simple to do), and you will most likely have to drill the flange for whatever driveshaft bolt pattern you are running (again, not that hard). These are nice axle due to the bigger center section.

It's not a tough swap at all.  It is also a little wider than an 84 axle, which is nice.  Let me see if I can find some pics.  The axle is still under my truck at my friends shop.

It's an 8.4.  It has an extra support piece that an 8" doesn't.  As far as strength, I have no idea.

It's stronger by a bit. I've heard mixed answeres about if the ring gear is bigger or not, but the pinion is def. bigger, the third has a more stour case, the are bridges for the carrier bearings to help with deflection, etc.

I'm assuming it still has the drums on it right? May not be worth it for me. I already have wheel spacers and disc brakes and 5.29's. All I'd be gaining is the locker and a little strength. I just get excited anytime I see parts available in the southeast. Got any other yota parts or need anything? I have lots of first gen parts I'm trying to sell/trade.

I have sold most of my parts, I just have some spares for this and that left from my 85.  Really the only thing I'm looking for is the shifter base for an R151F, but they are a little tough to come by.

You're right, I definitely don't have any R151F shifter parts. My weekend warrior/dd is a 2nd gen. What kind of parts from your 85 do you have? Anything good? I really need some 35's.

I *think* I still have a Budbuilt crossmember for duals with either a raised driveline or bodylift.  I have the stock birfs and shafts, stock wheels.  I can't really think of anything else.  A lot of stuff either went with the runner or out to friends.

Do you have any pics I could get? I'm still slightly interested. If my disc brake conversion will swap over it may still be worth the swap cause I could put the spacers to the front to match the wide rear.  Anybody know if the 4 bolts on the backside of the axle around the tube are the same space as a 4cyl 8" axle?

Is this what your looking for? i know its not the one for a R151f

If its what your looking for try the dealer. i bought one for my moms R151f at the dealer. cant remember the exact price it was around $40-$50 bucks.

Does anyone know if my 84 disc brake swap will bolt up on this axle?
