3rz questions for my 84 pickup
« on: Sep 04, 2008, 12:03:10 PM »
I got my motor lined up it is a 03 3rz.  However I still need to find a ecu since it was out of an auto.  I believe I read I needed one from the same year is that correct?  Also I live in hawaii and don't have to worry about emissions so is there anything I won't need like the cats?  Will my 22R radiator work or should I use the one from the donor(03) vehicle?  Regarding the fuel tank, do I need the donor tank and swap it into my truck instead of adding the sending unit to my stock tank.  Has anyone succesfully hooked up a/c with this swap?

Your best bet would be to swap in a EFI fuel tank and EFI fuel lines from a 22RE.  I don't think the 03 donor tank will work in your 84.

I guess one more thing to add to my list.  Thanks I'll see if I can't score a tank.  Do you know if they just bolt up? Hey volcom are you running the 2.7?

you could get rid of the cats but your gonna set a check engine light for catalyst efficiency and you could get rid of the evap canister but again check engine light neither one will effect engine performance.

I swapped an EFI system from an 85 into my 84.  The EFI tank bolts right in.  I also swapped the fuel lines since they are a higher pressure line.

I do not have a 04 tank with my swap an it runs fine, also I don't have the evap stuff. I have been looking like crazy for it because your truck will not perform to its peak without all of the stuff hooked up. Get everything off of the donor truck, I mean everything.

I know I've been reading for days on this swap and came up with a nice long list of things I'll need from the donor.  The donor is a auto trans so what do I need to hook it up to my manual setup?  Flywheel, clutch, bellhousing is that everything?  Also has anyone had a G series trans last behind a 3RZ?  And what ecu do i need to get if it came auto (what year, etc)?

How do I cross reference ecu numbers to see if it will work with a certain motor
