Fre lockers to Auto Lockers
« on: Aug 03, 2004, 03:20:32 PM »
Is it possible to convert my free lockers on my 86 yota 4runner to auto lockers? If so is there an advantage to haveing auto lockers?

the problem with mine was the clutch on the passenger side was in pieces :_order:  ill trade my auto hubs for your manual  but serious be a man and get out and lock your hubs. that way u know that 4wd is engaged before u hit something. im sure its nice just sitting in your truck throwing it into 4wd and go but how do u know it actually engaged? like everyone is saying stick with stock toyota hubs they are the strongest and the best way to go

I would go with Manual locking hubs they are stronger and if you dig Auto hubs for the fact that you dont want to get down and dirty...I say blah...you still end up getting dirty if you really wheel

I have a set of auto lockers from a '85 axle.  I will sell em to ya for $20.  When I pulled them off, they were in good condition, no signs of anything being broken that would prevent them from working.

What do auto hubs look like?  I have seen some hubs on and 85 extra cab that weren't manual.  I was stupified to what the heck they were.  Were they those kind?

They stick out just like the manual lockers.  But they have a plastic circular cover where the knob is that you'd turn.  It is black and it says Toyota automatic locking hubs or something along those lines.  It is a very sad thing to see.  When my dad brought my '85 axle home it had em on and I was like noooo.  But I ripped 'em off soon after.  If anyone actually wants to give these a whirl just contact me and I will sell mine.
