What does Marlin think of A.A.'s new 5.0:1 gears
« on: Mar 20, 2003, 05:14:05 PM »
I am curious how Marlin feels about A.A.'s new 5.0:1 t-case gears. Is he planning on a lower gear also?

i dont see the point in makeing a 5.0:1 instead of a 4.7:1, it isnt all that much lower, probly barily notice the differnce

Yet you think theres going to be a huge difference in crwl ratio between 4.88s and 5.89s With bigger tires  :shake:

I just replyed to a simular topic in the Product Support Forum.
Here is my message:
Code: [Select]
We've already got a few sets in stock and would like to sell them.

In fact today I am planning on doing a write up and comparision on the new 5.0:1 and our TS 4.70:1. There is a HUGE difference in terms of strength. Basically, AA took a 4.0:1 Gear set and made the input and low speed gear weaker.... but thats the result of gearing down, things get weaker; theres nothing you can do about that..

In terms of Dual Case or 5.0:1 Gears my vote would be for the Dualcase since its lower, a 5.2:1, and it gives you a nother 5 gear ratios including Low Range 2WD. Plus its much much stronger, especially if you consider the strength of our MC07.

Check our page soon for a complete article regarding this matter.

BigMike

Thanks Mike. I agree with everything you said. I know your 4.7 total spline is the way to go.

Hey Guys,

I did some research and comparison of our 4.7s and Advances 5.0 (4.97:1) and I've got some pretty surprising news and some shocking pictures. I was not able to redue our Gear page yesterday however, but I will try to do it this afternoon.

Yes, my first sentence says 4.97:1. That's the shocking thing I discovered. I mean, in actual reality I dont really give a sh*t if its a 4.97 and not a 5.0, its still a nice ratio, but its when they advertise it AS a 5.0 that gets me. I was just curious how they achieved a lower gear ratio, and it turns out that only 2 teeth were added to the cluster gear. All the other gears are the same ratios as our 4.70:1 set. So if you add something, then its taking away from the opposing gear, and that's what Ill write about. But we do have their 4.97:1 gear sets in stock and will be selling them.

Actual Ratios:
Our 4.70:1 => 4.703125:1
A/A 5.00:1 => 4.971875:1

So I figured out why Marlin always wanted me to write 4.70:1 instead of just 4.7:1; because we actually do make a 4.70:1. But how can Advance advertise a 5.0:1 when its not even a 5.0x:1? Its a 4.97:1!

Well, I know it means nothing. Its a lower gear set and that's that. If your looking for all out low and nothing else matters, then that's your best bet. But if your looking for something strong and reliable, then you should read my review once I get it up!

Regards,
BigMike

wouldn't it be best to have a dual case with 2:28 in one and 2:28 in the other :dunno:
or  the 4.00 and a 2.28 :dunno:
or apair of 4.00
4.00x4.00x3.83x4.88=299.0464 :chug:

The reason it is called a dual ultimate is because it is. All these are available in the t-case.
2.28
4.70
10.71

or a regular dual
2.28
5.20

Hey Glen,

Check out this article on our webpage that describes what an Ultimate is: Dual Ultimate Crawler

Sometimes we get an order for what we call an Ultimate Overkill Crawler. It used to be called a Ridiculous Crawler but Marlin didnt want to offend anyone.
Its when you run Dual cases with 4.70's in both.
3.93x4.70x4.70x5.29 = 459:1 !
